In a memo to employees, Reddit CEO Steve Huffman cautioned them not to wear branded gear in public. He also said the mass user backlash "will pass."

i think the ideal course of action is to continue the blackout indifinitely. As spez said, the impact isnt that significant. 2-3 days blackout in a year is nothing. But personally, the best course of action is for the mods to agree and abandon reddit entirely and start/joined a new platform. Reddit for me is a lost cause. while Spez is the head of reddit, nothing will change.

His AMA was very disappointing and made things worse.

That's clearly just a statement put out to make the userbase look like they're unhinged and a blatant attempt to garner some sympathy.

Employees shouldn't be wearing reddit 'swag' outside because it's just incredibly tragic. Corporate branded clothing is for wearing when you're gardening, mucking out the chickens etc.

the user backlash will pass? well i hope he's wrong 😄

He has data to back his claim. This isnt the first time reddit had experience backlash from its users and many times, people just simply move on. Casual users will continue to browse reddit thru their official app and loudest voices are usually the minority. Unless the mods continue to close their respective subreddit or/and move to other platform, I don’t see reddit going down any time soon.

I saw someone wearing Rammstein "swag" while I was shopping. I mean, who cares? Reddit's employees don't have to get shamed for their asshole employer.

Was just about to ask what's wrong with Rammstein, figured I'd Google first in case I'm out of the loop somehow.

...shit. :(

@sab

@lilbro93 yeah, very bad. It’s hard to be a fan of anything these days.
