What might people be interested in seeing here? Some thoughts I have:

  1. tabletop rpgs (though blahaj.zone seems to have a pretty good community on that, so maybe more of a focus on osr rpgs?)
  2. contrapoints
  3. jrpgs
  4. something programming adjacent
  5. something politics adjacent

Community creation is also open if anyone has any great ideas and wants to actualize them without any further discussion.

Meta question: to what extent should we qualify community names to signify queerness? Or will our server instance name be sufficient enough?

A travel community that's geared toward queer experiences might be fun.. What would we call it?

I'm thinking of searchability here. However, so far, Lemmy searchability seems to be nearly no, so it's a moot point I suppose .

Probably server instance name is sufficient. But if the name is fun and catchy that’s more important imo.

I don't quite follow how federation works on Lemmy - is the idea these would be communities just for us, the users registered on this instance? Or would we like to have folks from the wider fediverse wander in?

My immediate gut instinct is - queer gaming is a strong niche that would probably benefit from getting folks from all over? gayrpg?

Whereas - for a politics community, or a community discussing nuanced gender stuff, I'd probably want that more closed-off, unless we want to be fighting off troll brigades? But idk how that would work out in practice, Lemmy's culture might be different than what I'm used to.

Folks from anywhere we do not specifically disallow federation with would be able to join.

I definitely agree with you overall. (Maybe queerpg to be more inclusive?) Not sure for politics.

I like all of these and they're all different things I'd be interested in!
