On a technical level, sure, Threads got a lot of people very quickly.

But almost all those people were Instagram people initially. I wish there was a metric on folks who did not have Instagram and signed up to get Threads specifically.

In my head cannon chatgpt still is the “winner.”

I’m not sure about how most people do it, but I downloaded the app and it offered to let me sign in with Instagram. Meta isn’t counting IG accounts as part of their Threads base, the app specifically says your IG friends aren’t on threads yet.

Was there any advertising inside Instagram for threads?

This graph has some scale issues; 5 days and 2 months look basically the same and the difference between 5 years and 7 years is also minimal. They would have been better off dropping the "World Wide Web" which doesn't fit anyway since it isn't an app and giving more space to everything else.
