All the news is available from the original sources. You can access news without a social media account of any description.

My facebook feed is just celeb gossip trash. I am not sure how long it has been like that but 1 in 10 posts are from people. The rest are just blog spam in one form or another.

Big tech companies are greedy. They would sell their grandmothers for a dollar. If they can make $0.99 instead of $1 they're going to wave their dicks settings and hope everyone just caves buy ultimately they aren't going to be willing to give up that $0.99.

They would sell their grandmothers for a dollar.

Only a dollar? That doesn't sound very greedy.

Big media companies aren’t any less greedy

The classic, "No you are!" defense.

Not entirely. Your comment seemed to be trying to attribute blame based on nothing more than a measure of greed.

I was simply saying that no one side has a monopoly on greed in this scenario - so you’d need a bit more than that to try and figure out who’s in the wrong.

Correct, both sides act on greed. Seemed like an obvious statement, but at least you’ve finally caught up.

Wasnt insisting anything. You’re the one who posted in agreement that both side act out of greed.

Oh, so you weren’t implying that? What was your position then?

[-] TA202301@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 year ago

My position is that you have nothing but a bunch of tired clichés. They don't work when the person you hurl them at calls them out instead of taking the bait.

[-] geoken@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

No, I mean your original position.

I interpreted as google is to blame because they are greedy. Was that your position, and if it was do you think google has a monopoly on greed (which would seemingly be necessary for you to use greed as the sole factor in determining fault).

[-] TA202301@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 year ago

I knew exactly what you meant and exactly what you were trying to do and shot you down.

[-] geoken@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

Yeah, you used some edgy camel case while completely missing the point. I’m sure the red baron would be jealous of how hard you shot me down.

[-] TA202301@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 year ago

Why are you still here?

I don't know about Canadian news but Google has blocked bard (their AI chatbot competitor to ChatGPT). Not sure if it's related to this but Canada is one of the few countries worldwide (along with the likes of Iran and China) where bard is not available.

Big tech absolutely will. Why not? If the feds create really stupid rules and the cheapest alternative for tech companies is to exclude, then of course that is what they will do.

I don't personally think this is a genuine move to support Canadian media. It's more akin to how feds treat Canadians to fund Canadian media. They are just trying to push it to non Canadian tech companies.
