I'm pretty sure the traffic for the ads still gets sent to your device over the Internet, it's just that the ad blocker keeps it from rendering in your browser.

Even if we could stop poisoning the planet tomorrow, we still need to figure out how to deal with the mess we've created so far. The important distinction is to not let this technology development be used as a smokescreen for industries that produce PFAS, as has been done with carbon capture for the fossil fuel industry.

Perhaps the average Jane won't be making one of these filters at home, but they could perhaps be utilized in water treatment facilities to help stem forever chemical contamination in municipal water supplies. Better yet, make DuPont pay for these systems via an industry tax or punitive damages for their negligence when promoting the materials and downplaying their risks to human health. (and the environment)

If the gap is too large to caulk and your wall isn't wavy against a straight edge, then you could use a color-matched piece of scribe molding. You'd probably want to use a nail gun, but more or less just make sure it will fit against the wall with enough room on the cabinet stile to attach (but not so wide that it hits the hinges). Once you're ready to add the piece, cut it to length, run a line of glue where it will contact, then hold it snug against the wall and put a couple of brad/pin nails through it into the cabinet behind. Putty+touchup paint would be a good idea if you go this route.

If the wall isn't straight then it might need to be cut to profile, which is more complicated but doable. You'd essentially need to make a proper scribe cut which may require a pencil and a saw. Of course, you could skip this and just apply the molding in combination with a very thin caulk line and then likely wouldn't be able to tell it's uneven (again, as long as the wall is reasonably straight)

Most hardware stores carry pre-finished scribe molding, and I'd highly recommend taking a door off its hinges to compare with the color selections available in store. Hell, if you pre-measure the exact width and length you need the molding to be ahead of time, many stores offer a service to get it pre-cut to size which helps things go as smoothly as possible. This is assuming you don't have the tools on hand of course.

All that said, if you can fill the gap with a single bead of caulk running down the length, that's almost guaranteed to be your best bet. Either way, you will almost certainly want to clean up the existing foam first.

What a phenomenal country to allow this sort of thing to occur at all

A "privacy" company acquiring and centralizing various projects to be under its umbrella seems kind of worrisome to me even if it's done with pure intentions.

My boyfriend occasionally watches YouTube shorts, mostly for the occasional good joke or cat video. He's told me that the shorts algorithm seemingly goes out of its way to show him Andrew Tate type content as well as general Daily Wire/Shapiro/conservative 'libs owned' clips. More or less, if he doesn't immediately close out the app or swipe to the next short when one of these videos comes up, his shorts feed is quickly dominated by them.

I think the big thing is that these algorithms are often trained on maximizing watch time/app usage, and there's something uniquely attention-catching to a lot of men and boys about the way viral manosphere content is constructed. A random poor setup to a skit is likely to get swiped past, but if the next clip comes swinging out of the gate with "here's how women are destroying the West" there's a certain morbid curiosity that gets some to watch the whole thing (even out of amusement/credulousness), or at least stay on the clip slightly longer than they would otherwise. If one lingers on that content to any degree, the algorithm sees that as a sign that the user wants more of it—or rather, that it would achieve its "more engagement" goals by serving up more of it.

Plus, it's grabbing ideas on what to recommend based on user data and clustered associations. It's very likely to test the waters with stuff it knows worked for others with similar profiles, even if it's a bit of a reach.

Edit: minor sentence structure stuff

I use Firefox whenever I can.

On first install of the browser I usually end up following a hardening guide which includes stuff like blocking cross site cookies, setting a few things in about:config to disable Pocket/etc, and installing uBlock Origin. I've taken what I consider a relatively balanced approach, I don't use anything like noScript, uMatrix, etc that ultimately just cost a lot of time fiddling to get the 10th website of the week working.

I've been more or less fine browsing the web this way for years, but around the start of 2024 I've started seeing way more "Access Denied" pages than I used to. I think part of it is Cloudflare or similar, but I don't know exactly what's changed or what's triggering it to occur.

It usually goes away and I can re access the site in 10-30 minutes as usual, but I've had it occur in really weird instances, such as trying to change my Minecraft skin and getting blocked by the website. The server block often goes away immediately if I switch my user agent, so I know that it has something to do with how I've got everything set up.

Not sure what anyone else's experience with this has been. I'd like to hear some of your thoughts and tips

I could comment on the notion that one owns one's girlfriend but regardless, you should definitely self host if you're sharing deeply personal information with a program

Hot take:

Every time I see a Doctor Seuss parody that doesn't respect the very strict meter that made his stuff flow so well, it's always followed by about five minutes of me trying to fix it and then stopping because that was supposed to be the author's responsibility. You can sneak in an extra syllable here or there, and there will be situations where it's ambiguous based on word pronunciation, but any more than two syllables off and you should've workshopped it some more.

Take all of these matters most seriously
The gravest of grave should be clear
To step out of meter where any could see
Will only get side-glancing sneers

And who, then, shall patch up this unfinished road
Assembled with half-baked word stones?
'Tis not my intent but I think it's best flowed
With a concrete from Onceler's old bones

To summarize for anyone who would rather not watch the video, there are always exactly 4 "events" in a wildwood instance. While any specific event is randomly selected, their locations are always around the far North, South, East, and West of the area. If you can find two events, especially if they're perfectly horizontal or vertical from each other, it becomes much easier to find a third and possibly fourth. After you find the first, all you have to do is look for the remaining spots of the 'diamond', following wisp trails to make an educated guess.

I thought this was pretty useful information, especially if you're trying to maximize wisp collection to juice your maps or find more nameless creatures to complete quests.

Blahaj PoE sub created (lemmy.blahaj.zone)

Hi everyone!

I decided to create this sub as an alternative to other Path of Exile discussion boards on Lemmy, since most of them were pretty dead (not that another sub on another instance will fix that, but why not ok?) There was also a weirdly long propagation time for posts of mine to show up on the other instance's board, so I'm hoping that won't be as much of an issue with this one here.

For now I've created the sub icon (and I guess this welcome message too).

Any questions about the game are welcome! I'm not exactly an expert or anything but I've gotten through most non-uber endgame content and am part of a guild that is also very knowledgeable about the game.

Thanks for reading!
