Do yourself a favor and wait until you can see it in IMAX, it's how Nolan intended it to be viewed. I don't want to spoil anything, I'll just say it blew me away.

Back when I was a poor kid, our fancy cups were collectable Disney glasses from Burger King.

Same, I migrated from Plex to Jellyfin about a year ago. It's just as solid without any of the bloat, local authentication just in case the internet goes down, and transcoding isn't locked behind a membership.

Thanks for the post @canthidium! My main purpose for starting this community is to drive user engagement and discussion on Lemmy. Discord would work just fine for discussing a movie in real time, but I don't want to gatekeep that discussion behind Discord for those that don't use or want that application. Lemmy is the discussion platform we all have in common. Streaming the movie on Discord is just an option that's available to the host (or another watch party member) for the benefit of those that don't have access to a copy of the movie, but would still like to watch and join in on the discussion.

TL;DR Discord is just a means to an end of driving engagement and discussion on Lemmy.

Fuck, me too. I got a gym membership (I've gone once), just need to find a therapist now.

Not really, unfortunately. You'd have to create the community on a different instance, make a sticky post in the original community redirecting them to the new community, and then lock the community to prevent new posts. If you don't have a lot of content in the original community, or don't care about keeping it, you could delete the community after a week or two once people have subscribed to the new community to prevent confusion.

At least it'll keep the place warm in the winter.

What the actual fuck, this is like the cutest thing I've ever seen in my entire life.

Personally, I'll probably start hosting weekly watch parties on Tuesday nights for now to get the ball rolling. Being based in the US, Monday and Thursday night, as well as Sundays probably won't see a lot of engagement once football season starts. I'm open to feedback on tweaking the rules some, is announcing a watch party 6-12 hours in advance too little notice? I'm not sure, should it be 24 hours? I also plan on cross-posting the watch party announcements to a couple of the larger movie communities to increase visibility. This is all still a work in progress, and new territory for me. I don't think I ever saw this live thread concept applied to movies on Reddit, but I think it's got potential if people like it and start hosting their own watch parties as well.

Today I've started a recurring $5/month donation to lemmy.world. Scaling up infrastructure to meet demand is expensive, and they need as much help as they can get to offset their costs. I'll most likely bump it up to $10 a month if the software continues to improve the UX and performance. I encourage everyone that has the means to, to even make a one time small donation to your local instance (if possible), as these first couple months will be critical in the growth and sustainability of this federated community.
