My history teachers focused a lot on the crimes of the Nazis and their rise to power, and after WW2, pretty much only the Cold War, German East-West divide and reunification were covered. Israel wasn't really much of a topic. We learned that there was conflict and violence between the Jews who went there and the people who already lived there, but that's about it.

Just one friend of mine learned more about the conflicts and came to the conclusion that Israel is quite fucked up.

I think that the majority of people know very little about what happened, and the "we need to support Israel to make things right" sentiment was an easy gesture of good will from politicians that seemed like common sense and was engrained in the political establishment over the decades (encouraged by the US). Only now this is becoming more controversial. But I think most people still have the position "this is all complicated and it's too removed for me, idk, terrorism and bombings from both sides are bad."

Unsustainable consumerism is a big part of this problem and if we continue to give them even more money to lobby against us, we have already lost.

The belief that consumer habits don't need to change and that everything can be solved by just voting for the right party every 4 years is not based in reality. I wish it was this easy.

If people buy and drive gas cars when they don't have to, they are perpetuating the fossil fuel industry. If people choose to buy factory farmed products, they are funding factory farming with their money.

The sustainable options like electric cars and plant based alternatives also need demand to compete with the much more destructive counterparts. We have to push for the solutions, not finance the problems.

Can you think of a more profit-friendly message than "Just keep on consuming more, it's fine, don't question the consequences, keep up the status quo"? I can't.

I don't think the official one is gonna be bad by any means. They will probably fix the biggest flaws with hindsight and modernize the graphics, and it will be a big improvement over the original if everything goes right.

But ultimately they had deadlines to meet and many more games in the pipeline, whilst the Skyblivion team can work on everything for as long as it takes, experiment much more and put as much detail and soul into everything as they want. I think that will make a difference, but both will be good games.

Offering at least one option that don't include factory farmed food, that caused a lot of animal suffering in it's production, should be the bare minimum.

"When I specifically go to a restaurant run by animal lovers and I can't even get any dead animals from them, you shouldn't be able to get food that didn't harm animals in any restaurant!"

Wow. I guess there really are people who want to make it even harder to avoid causing cruelty, for no reason... Just why?

Skyblivion (the fan remake) will probably have much more attention to detail and will also release this year, after over 10 years of development. The dev log videos look amazing. I'd be very surprised if the official remake is as good.

If you're browsing on mobile, I can recommend the app Voyager for Lemmy or Thunder for Lemmy. I liked their layout the best from the few I tried.

I wonder if they were just too blinded by greed to act rationally or were under the impression that they can control Trump enough to keep the economy afloat.
