rhetorical question, I know what she's doing, clicking on random shit and then blaming other people for her problems.

every intrusive advertisement or popup. "I got hacked" every wrong website she goes to "this is a scam"

both of them shield, coddle, and enable a 53 year old man who is an overt Nazi and purge/mass death obsessed eugenicist freak, (my uncle), a lot more needs to be said to them honestly.

The insane outnumber them, and they made the decision a long time ago, the answer was yes.

depending on your household's browsing habits, it can be downright insane how much traffic goes through ones network (and the web at large), that is just nothing but dog shit.

I monitored my pihole at my place and my own traffic is usually no more than 15% garbage with about 750,000 domains blocked, but the second grandma or grandpa starts doomscrolling boomer things on their phones and ipads. I saw the network traffic at 60% blocked one time and I had to confront them and flatly ask them "what the fuck are you doing on your phone?"

also set up a Region exemption or whatever, blocking russian, chinese, and a whole bunch of other untrustworthy TLDs and im literally showing my grandmother the repeated attempts to communicate with something in fucking China in real time whilst she's playing some solitare game she downloaded.

Not even a linux guy, but I had a Pi from a decade ago that I never opened, decided to set it up and use it for something useful, friends suggested Pihole. pained myself for 2 days getting everything working (most of my trouble had to do with peripherals and IP addresses not the device itself) but after the grief, got it working and it was well worth it.

I even printed a sticker for it that said "where ads go to die"

sorry doubleclick, but you're toast

I'm 33 and I regressed back into doing what I did in the mid 2000s, Hanging out with friends I met on Second life when I played it, or posting on forums like knockout, (which is the community run successor to facepunch, the old garrys mod oriented forum)

it might be immature, but what the fuck is mature anymore. go on reddit or practically any mainstream platform and its people twice my age having absolute fucking meltdowns babbling about batshit insane and dangerous conspiracy theories, Ranting about Morality, Jews, Evil Big Pharma. FML

you know that meme where its the guy saying he prefers the original, and multiple options are thrown at him where he keeps saying "no the real original"

I feel like we have a case of that here, except its what Makes an American, and it continues getting reductive until you've narrowed it down to a Jingoistic or Ultranationalist/Manifest Destiny type WASP (White, Anglo-saxon heritage, Protestant faith christian)

I only fell for one of those maybe once or twice before I caught on. No money was lost though. just spam/adware

I did manage to get scammed and have my habbo hotel account stolen though, I was also a stupid kid.

I wasn't dunking on the game, I only said I didnt play it, and otherwise, anything in the present that Krafton is associated with seems like something to avoid

The internet in the 2000s was like a WW1 Trenchline. Noise and graphic content everywhere and one wrong move could cost you life or limb.

I dont exactly remember when it started getting "safer" because I think the same time the internet was getting safer to browse, a lot of Millenial and Zillenial kids were getting smarter and otherwise learning how to not get malware and worms on their PC

the creation in the game is advanced, its the gameplay inbetween the character creator and house designer that I find to be hollow
