So wait, you're saying that anything created or developed using opens source software should be given away for free?

So is the real issue not technical? More of a social/moderation issue? The post makes it sound like there are technical reasons that only experienced technical persons can solve. I'm not much of a sysadmin, but I'd be curious what the underlying technical difficulties were.

I remember going to RadioShack as a kid too and they had a Tandy computer setup. It was magical for 8 year old me. I think they even did repairs back then because that electrical soldering smell is seared in my memory.

I've been using Linux for almost 30 years and I still don't use it as my desktop. There are just too many little things that don't work or are a hassle day to day. It's great for messing around but unless you're spending all of your time in a web browser or a command line, it's just not worth it when I have real work to do. It's been about 5 years since I tried a desktop version so maybe it warrants another look. But, I doubt it. Desktop is just not a priority for open source.

On the other hand, when it comes to servers Linux is always my number 1 choice. I run several relatively high demand services with up times measured in months and sometimes years.

Reading the Wikipedia it seems this (so far) really applies more to humanitarian science and not 'hard' sciences like physics and chemistry, etc. Hardly a reason to question scientific research and evidence. I look at it this way: science is objective and impersonal, religion subjective and personal.
