I've worn contacts for almost 40 years, but got tired of using readers these last several years to be able to, you know, read. After unsuccessfully trying multivocal contacts, I got progressive glasses. My vision? GREAT? The 3 weeks it took to get my brain used to moving my head more and my eyes just right (especially while driving) so that seeing the right part of my prescription wasn't swinging all over the place and making me nauseous? Fucking hell. That was absolute torture. It's worth it on the other side at least.

I do kinda miss contacts. I may get a second opinion for my prescription and try again.

Is the image burning into the screen not a concern on these though?

For the love of God can't we just make sex work legal, take the shame out of it, and STOP associating it with massage? PLEASE?!?

I've been a massage therapist for almost 20 years now and have got the point where the sex jokes hit with about the same impact as asking the cashier if something is free if the item doesn't scan at the register. I work in hospice, and not 3 weeks ago I had a patient's brother in law giggle and ask me if I gave his sister in law a happy ending. My inside voice said "no, sorry, she's still breathing so she has to keep dealing with you" while my outside voice pretended not to hear the comment.

Antibiotics aren't for viruses. Cold air doesn't make you sick. Tongues don't have "taste zones." Muscles don't have memory.

And because you threw up for one day, you didn't have "the 24hr flu." You ate something bad or someone didn't wash their hands. The flu is short for influenza, which is a respiratory virus, which typically does not make you throw up and shit. More likely it was the dodgy gas station sushi.

Let's keep going...

I'm from the US and I've been watching For All Mankind lately so I feel like a bit of a moon expert. I'm pretty confident that if I viewed the moon from 6' away, it'll look larger than a dime. But I could be wrong.

I'd think it would depend on the frequency of interactions. Leg and foot protection would add weight, so unless the dwarves were expected they might not want to bear the extra burden.

On that note, Lord of the Rings extended editions have been showing in theaters the last couple weekends. I kept thinking how prior to battles the fighters were all geared up and marched for days (or longer) and showed up throwing themselves straight into battle. Here I am not functioning as my soft ass finishes my coffee in bed, trying to negotiate when I need to actually start getting ready for work.

Through my teenage years I got wrapped up in an evangelical environment, but as an adult found my way to a non- denominational church. It was eye opening. The more I talked to the pastor, learned and read, I realized that people get wrapped up in their denominations like sports teams. And since the different denominations come about because of different interpretations of Scripture and the "rules" some group puts into place for their team, no wonder it's the perfect environment for creating a culture of control and abuse for those seeking power.

This doesn't make me not believe in God, this makes me not trust the motivations of people in power. On the day to day, I try to be the best I can to people around me, and share love, kindness, and respect. That's my big take away from Jesus' teachings at least.

Something I haven't seen other commenters bring up that can have a huge impact, is the overall lifestyles people are living.

The unhealthiest years of my life were when I was working 2 jobs and struggling to keep a roof over mine and my 3 kids heads. Stress and depression were huge problems and money was tight, so sometimes the little bit of dopamine or serotonin from eating a "treat" were the highlights of the day. Add to that, the guilt of not being around to cook regular meals for my kids lead to 1) making large amounts of food on my one day off that could be eaten as leftovers throughout the week or 2) easy convenience foods (frozen pizzas, boxed Mac and cheese, etc) that the kids could make when I wasn't around.

Fast forward many years - my kids are adults taking care of themselves and I'm down to 1 good job that offers financial stability. My diet and health have completely changed. I actually have the time and energy to cook and plan better.

I'm not saying this to shift blame or responsibility, but to bring a different experience. When I hear (hopefully well meaning) people suggest "just cook healthier meals" it strikes me about the same as "stop eating avocado toast and you could afford a house."

Not a Texan, but as I understand if a state connects to other states then there are federal regulations that need to be followed.

I wouldn't call it a flex. But sometimes openly admitting something even to strangers on the Internet can offer some ownership of the situation and start someone headed the right direction.

If I'm ordering delivery I'm probably not in the greatest place either, but I'm not heartless.

"I'm sorry to hear you're having a bad day. Bring me my food unscathed, and I'll place a second order you can pick up and keep. What do you want to drink?"

Huh. I raised my children to treat people the way they want to be treated and to share their toys with others. As teens and adults they've tended to cultivate friend groups of supportive, welcoming people. I consider them extended family, and if someone has a need we should be available to help.

The people they're skeptical of are the "I've got mine, fuck you" types.
