Credulity and technical competence are definitely not mutually exclusive.

It is disinformation to promote the idea that any of the people or corporations mentioned in this article were ever "climate advocates" and there is no reason we should continue to promote outlets that engage in this rhetoric.

He didn't interrupt. His attackers interrupted. Intercept needs to watch their mouth.

Just brilliant. You created a very mild and civil honeypot for fascist sympathizers.

The more I look at the kind of messaging I see on this platform, the more I think maybe it isn’t great. It’s a lot of demotivating, depression-inducing, defeatist gloom and doom and far fewer calls to action than I remember seeing on other platforms in previous conservative administrations.

You are right that we ought to be posting less gloom. There is a lot of unhelpful rhetoric out there already, I've even seen 'sticking it out til the midterms' and that's not the kind of defeatist nonsense people need to hear.

As a Gloomy Gus myself I could do better about making this a brighter place to inhabit, you gave me something to think about.

Sure. My comment was intended to playfully criticize fantasizing about non-existent states, such as a Soviet Union existing fifty-ish years after its destruction. While I don't think states should exist generally, I find it humorous that people imagine and then defend non-existent states, and I would be really happy if every state was simply a thought exercise. The meme would be equally funny to me if someone were lamenting the loss of Prussia or San Marino.

I do not agree with your characterization of my initial statements so I can't argue with you, sorry.

[–] ErsatzCoalButter@beehaw.org 1 points 1 day ago (5 children)

I do not have state level goals. I am not a state level actor. I am a captive pawn in the colonies, and in my region the only legitimate state is the Senecas, at least to my knowledge. They are good folks but idk if they are "leftists" or whatever. They are just people who live there and have been under attack for hundreds of years. You are describing a philosophical fantasy.

Misleading headline and pure fantasy. Breaks down to a couple western lawmakers looking for ways to intervene on behalf of National Park Services. Hope I saved someone a click.

This is the truest thing I have read this year

so if Mewt made up Ivalice does that mean that Ramza's whole story... is a footnote in history for a world that only existed as background for a bunch of kids who can barely play snowballs??? those kids made up Cúchulainn the Tainted King because nobody splained about death properly to Mewt who is like 9???? I can't BELIEVE this I don't have a single Tactic for this

Personally I use Bazzite and I think it is great.

I operate four PCs in my day-to-day, which may seem excessive, but I choose to solve most computing problems with PCs (no smart TV). My HTPC, which I drive with Bazzite, primarily serves as a fireplace/ light media/ light gaming setup. Bazzite is uniquely well configured for this purpose. It brings the stability of a Fedora-based, Atomic OS, but leaves behind the codec and media issues Fedora can introduce. The tinkering one would generally need to do with Steam comes pre-configured, like you may be used to with SteamOS on Steam Deck. ExpressVPN works, but requires terminal in my configuration (I believe I could operate it through a GUI if I were so inclined). Bazzite does a great job of being configurable to serve TVs that need scaling and safe zones.

alt text: Elon Musk doing his X dance with his belly hanging out in front of that ugly flag they hang everywhere in the colonies. Meme text: "Imagine personally being the guy who set off the kessler syndrome and great filtered your entire species"

As some users are correctly pointing out, the midgame of the rise of fascist powers in the colonies would appear to involve private space corporations equipping the Trump regime with nuclear armed satellites.

Hypothetically I am a middle-aged white guy in average health with statistically solid odds to have another 15 years of time on this earth, and then we'll bell curve my life expectancy based on that (30 years likely, 45 years likely not). I live in the colonies, but hypothetically I'm not cut off short by the regime personally, either 😜. However feel free to include me in hypothetical MCEs or extinction events in your guesses.

My guess is that I am likely to live to see cascade events leading to a pretty significant manifestation of the Kessler Syndrome.

Here are some things I am considering:

  • Private Space Corps, especially Space X, are prone to frequent accidents and pollute at regionally disruptive scale as a regular course of business

  • Even from my very limited vantage point on the "Western" English-speaking internet, it is clear that U.S. & USD Based Private Space Corps are only one of a handful of highly space capable powers, and nuclear powers number in the double digits

  • Satellites seem comparably easy to destroy and non-state powers are probably capable of it

  • Seems like it wouldn't take a whole lot of nukes going off

Anyway keep it light^1^ let's keep in mind that we are discussing a hypothetical model of the author, not the poor slob who wrote this post, so it's cool if he gets exploded by a hypothetical man-made trash asteroid or whatever.

  1. "What do you mean, 'keep it light?' This seems like a doomer post!" No, this is a Godzilla 2 on NES post. This post originates from my deep deep meditations on the manifestations of King Ghidorah, and whether the JDF would be able, under any circumstances, to mount a successful defense against them^2^. In my unfathomable ponderings I realized that humanity is in fact manifesting King Ghidorah by allowing the demon TESCREAL to manifest its space hydra. So it isn't doomerism, I'm trying to beat a Nintendo game.
  2. "What do you mean 'against them?'" King Ghidorah is a plurality, so I use they/them pronouns when contemplating their destruction.

*edit 1 just to be clear i am an anti-fascist and i think these outcomes are bad

**edit 2 added citation for TESCREAL so people don't think I'm bonkers

Just saw @silverspookgames@wandering.shop talking about their game on Masto, which is currently on sale, and it sorta seemed like it would have a bunch of cross-appeal over here. Right? "an anti-capitalist indigenous-made cyberpunk game"? C'mon.

-----------Steam Copy Follows------------

Neofeud is a Dystopic Cyberpunk adventure game in the vein of Blade Runner, but with an overlay of Game of Thrones-like political intrigue, and 1366x768, hand-painted, stylized visuals. The art, writing, programming, music, and audio are made by one person, Christian Miller, also known as Silver Spook, with the exception of 50% of the voice acting.

Synopsis:

2033 - We create AI. Sentient robots arrive, but not as our Terminator overlords or our Singularity saviors -- conscious machines are humanity's unwanted bastard children. A few are geniuses who design flying cars, beat cancer, invent teleportation, but millions of defective prototypes roll out of factories -- mentally challenged, motivationally-challenged, criminally-inclined. Legally conscious, but unhirable, these "Defectives" are shuffled through public housing and welfare assistance, straining the already overburdened back of the meager social safety net. The robots who don't end up in prison are dumped, as a last resort, into a massive landfill known as "The Pile".

Humans engage in perfection of their species -- or at least the powerful and well-connected -- genetically engineering children with human and animal DNA. The failed eugenics experiment "Frankenpeople" are discarded into "The Pile" as well. The new dynasties, 'Neofeudal Lords', live in towering neon glass castles, shuttle around in pristine nanotech-enabled pods, minds and bodies full of cyberware, spending most of their time taking selfies and "optimizing their monetization schemes". A race of supermen concerned only with their own status, their prestige, their success. Where machines have become all too flawed and human, people have become flawless, perfect, cold machines.

Karl Carbon is an ex-cop, dishonorably discharged from Coastlandia PD for disobeying an order to shoot an unarmed sentient humanoid. Karl is exiled to "The Pile" as a lowly social worker. There he counsels gangbanging foster-kid robots and confiscates chimera-children from deadbeat half-wolf parents. Till one day a case goes horribly sideways and Karl is drawn into a sordid conspiracy that could threaten the strained fabric of Human-Robot-Hybrid civilization -- or save it.

In the abyss before time, where the feathered serpent uncoiled in the darkness, the Popol Vuh whispers of creation’s dawn. Born from the void, gods with eyes like obsidian conjured mountains from nothingness and sculpted men from maize. Heroes rise, twins born of blood and sacrifice, destined to conquer the lords of Xibalba, a shadowy underworld teeming with whispers and decay. Yet, victory is fleeting, and even the sun and moon bear the scars of this cosmic struggle, their celestial dance a haunting reminder of the fragile balance between life and oblivion. Volahn returns with their third offering of ancestral Mayan black metal. The Black Twilight Circle continues the legacy of kings with Volahns crowning opus as its self-bloodletting sacrifice. While continuing the classic French/Russian black metal vanguard, Volahn dives deep to pursue the BTC dichotomy of unnerving dread and piercing triumphant soundscapes.

Looks fun and funny. There's a demo and here's a trailer.

Game copy follows.

After a whole afternoon at home with your sibling, the kitchen’s a mess, your room’s in disarray, you haven't hung the laundry: a normal day. SUDDENLY... you see on that phone notification that your dad will be coming home early - you hear the garage screeching and opening and... RUN!! DAD'S COMING!!

Meet Bob, the goofy, clumsy brother who’s panicking thinking of the horrible things might happen to him if dad finds out they made a mess - like not playing video games for the rest of the night. Terrifying!

Kate, on the other hand, was born for this. She's had years of intensive training: putting everything away and pretending she's asleep as soon as she hears dad in the hallway on the way to her bedroom, never once being spotted! And this time it won't be different.

But be careful! Your adorable cat Jack won't stop knocking things over!

And many other challenges! Cooperate by throwing objects between floors!

Be careful not to break windows or fragile objects like grandma's urn - your dad won't be too happy if your grandma bites the dust twice!

Keep an eye on Jack, the siblings’ cat! He is always messing around and knocking things over.

Use the means in each house to be even quicker, such as service elevators!

Watch out for blackouts in blizzards! Sometimes you will have to reactivate the circuit breaker!

And much more!

Considering the Switch 2 (with those pretty joystick well covers to protect from drift, omg) and the Ryzen Z2 Go announcements, the low cost and availability of Steam Deck & parity level APU machines for purchase now, and the giant 1080p gaming install base represented by current gen consoles, it sure seems like low spec & 1080p gaming is going to have a pretty sunny future. I am hoping this gives small and medium sized development teams a chance to show up what is left of AAA gaming.

What are your favorite low spec gaming setups right now? I'm enjoying a 5700g APU system the most these days. Mainstream wise, I've been playing Elden Ring and Injustice 2 and Vampire Survivors. The last Indie I played is this beat-em-up / horde survival game An American Werewolf in LA which was pretty cool.

Personally, I spent the Biden years unsuccessfully trying to switch careers and immigrate away from the USA/ Rust Belt. I have had little success in either, but now I understand why it was so hard for "good people" in "Germany" to get out of dodge. Did a lot of food access mutual aid when I had the time and resources, felt pretty impotent though. Having mostly recovered from the two failed attempts to improve my situation, I am trying to figure out what to do next in the New New Neo Shin Age of Monsters we find ourselves in. While the Democrats smized and handed us over "peacefully" for pogroms, territorial grabs, limitless pollution, genocides and domestic terror in the name of their sacred oligarchic democracy, I wondered if there was some other decent way forward for the sane that I was missing.

For those who do not understand the analogy, I am comparing our situation to these:

Beer Hall Putsch

Appeasement

I have seen so many different approaches to ingress be responded to by Lemmings as inappropriate or creepy, much of it hypocritical to other responses, but I digress: is there ANY appropriate way that everyone can agree on for convincing humans to invite you past their threshold?

From the collective consciousness of Lemmy comments I have read, my impression is that the only appropriate thing is to be born into a coterie with thralls already and never make any moves or even so much as look at a human in your unlifetime.
