If you disagree that .ml are communist and insist that they're "tankies" instead, it seems to imply that not all communists are "tankies." However, every single communist I'm aware of is called a tankie. What does a communist who isn't a tankie look like? Are there examples of such a thing?

Osama Bin Laden and I happen to have the same position that the end of the USA as a political entity would be a positive thing. I probably also agree with him that breathing and having meals is necessary for survival.

Are either of those propositions made less true by virtue of Osama also believing them?

It's not legal to be critical of the state of Israel in a general sense in Germany, at least. You can be jailed for comparing Israel to the Nazis, for calling for the dissolution of the state of Israel, or for various other anti-Zionist positions. I mean, here's Ursula Von Der Leyen telling protesters 'in Russia you would be arrested' while they were actively being arrested for their political position.

Meanwhile, I read criticism of Chinese foreign policy all the time. @QinShiHuangsShlong@hexbear.net, @CloutAtlas@hexbear.net, @Flyberius@hexbear.net and @xiaohongshu@hexbear.net are Hexbear accounts that are users from China who post about their criticisms of Chinese foreign policy.

Okay, thank you, I don't know why it was necessary to drag the thread out for so many comments to get a source out of you when I was upfront with the sources I used to justify my original claims.

I'll have to peruse through the sources cited there tomorrow, sadly I'm a little busy right now.

Okay, so it's not a quote? It's just information from your mind? Can you tell me what the source of the information was?

[–] FunkyStuff@lemmy.ml 0 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

No, I'm willing to admit that what China did is really horrible and can rightfully justify putting them as Darth Vader in the meme. I'm saying that Europe doesn't get to be Luke.

This string exists in your comment:

Weird way to write “being repressed, being subject to forced labour, ideological and political “reeducation”, being restricted in exercising their religious beliefs to the point of muslim names being prohibited, being subject to abuse and internment, etc. pp, all that to degrees where several experts classify CCPs course against Uighurs in Xinjiang as a genocide.”

The 19th character of that string is ". The last character is also a ". Where I come from we call that a quote.

No, I meant the quote in the body of your comment. The one that ends in the claim that the course of the CPC against Uighurs in Xinjiang is a genocide.

Where's that quote from?

[–] FunkyStuff@lemmy.ml -1 points 5 hours ago (3 children)

Yeah, you're actually right about that. China has a bad track record of supporting genocidal governments in SEA, like with the Khmer Rouge.

The scale of the genocide in Gaza is much larger than the Rohingya genocide, though, so it's still inappropriate to call Europe the "good side" as compared to China.

In Xinjiang I believe they're enjoying a pretty fantastic rate of development and industrialization.^[https://news.cgtn.com/news/2025-09-15/Graphics-Xinjiang-s-rapid-economic-development-over-70-years-1GGiBSw1vX2/p.html] Uighurs in other countries, I'm not so sure. I heard about Uighur groups in Syria working with the new HTS government^[https://foreignpolicy.com/2025/04/04/uyghurs-tpd-syria-fighters/] to massacre Alawites and other ethnic/religious minorities.^[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2025_massacres_of_Syrian_Alawites] Is there a reason I should believe otherwise about either case?

Quite a few. Does that make them culpable for a genocide?
