Deathgrip is another spiritual successor in the same vein as the one you linked, although it's been stuck in development hell for a while now I think. I haven't heard anything about the project since the demo hit and it's still set to release into early access in 2025

I see goof-ups like this all the time in the NMLS system. Someone thought they were inputting the price in the thousands and meant to list it at 4.7 million, or this is actually a rental and the monthly cost is $4,700 which still seems quite low for such a large property.

Back when I was house shopping I would gets automatic forwards from my agent about "new listings under your budget!" and they would be crazy low prices like $600 or something. Takes a few days for the listing agent to notice their own screw up and fix the listing.

I guess I just don't understand the way they think. I once gave away an old bike for free on craigslist and the lady who came to pick it up was super nice, she even gave me a bottle of wine in exchange, and she totally didn't have to do that. I miss interactions like that. I wish people didn't always feel like they need to get a deal when bargaining for secondhand stuff online.

Gee, I wonder why? Perhaps xenophobia and open hostility towards foreigners isn't good for the tourism industry? Who could have possibly foreseen this outcome? 🤔🙄

I expect this trend to continue if the federal government moves forward with it's plan to charge foreigners more money to visit national parks. One of the objectively best things about our country is our vast natural beauty protected by the federal government in perpetuity, and the national parks system is one of the few institutions that turns a profit every year and we still have the dumbass-in-chief trying to fuck that up too.

Bro, it's even worse if you try and give away stuff for free. I tried for months to offload a sectional that I had no room for in my house and I got so many fucking bullshit calls about it. Finally, I decided that it wasn't worth selling and I was just trying to avoid paying a fee to dispose of it, so I relisted it for free. It was FREE and I had people get upset that my one condition was that they take it away on their own. I would go whatever it took to get them to take it - I'll shrink wrap it, I'll put each piece on a pallet, I'll even help them lift it onto their van or truck. Even if it takes them multiple trips. But I wasn't about to go rent a truck to deliver it to them if they weren't going to pay for it.

The description was very clear, but every reply was "I want it, but can you deliver it to me?". When I told them no, they'd always get aggressive and call off the "deal", as if I care that they don't want the thing I'm giving away for free. The people who did agree to come get it never showed up, which made it frustrating since I would have to take off time from work to be home.

I've basically given up on trying to use online marketplaces to sell used things. They've been completely taken over by the most frugal cunts imaginable.

This is literally impossible because if they compete in the general against Mamdani they’re NOT DEMOCRATS. THEY’RE THIRD PARTY.

What does this have to do with anything? Democrats can vote for independents.

Read what I wrote again, very slowly, very carefully, comprehend it, and then fuck right off. Blocked.

Why are we talking in circles here? I've already acknowledged that he won the primary. That's why this statement from Paterson is very very stupid.

It's ridiculous to argue he is not in lockstep with the dem establishment, he used to be the state party chair. He may not be in the position anymore, but he's still using his political influence to punch down on Mamdani.

Okay, I'm on your side on this one OP, but let me play Devil's Advocate here...

Perhaps your GF is worried that you will get stuck in a rut and become depressed? I often feel this way when I don't have a routine to keep me busy. At first I enjoy the feeling of not having to wake up and go to work every day, but eventually all of the things that bring joy into my life become less fun, and I start to feel bored and unfulfilled.

Here's another angle: Maybe she thinks there may be a possibility, however slight, that the passive income might not last, might not keep up with inflation/rising costs. or might not be enough to cover a large expense like a medical emergency or catastrophic disaster?

I know if I were not working, I would be worried that I would be falling behind on my professional development, and if I ever did have to get a job again, I'd have a massive gap in my work history. Sure, you could always lie and say you were "self-employed" or whatever, but if you aren't keeping up with the industry, you might not have developed skills to just jump back in at the same level you were at before.

Okay, done playing the Devil's Advocate. Here's my thoughts:

I don't think your GF is wrong for wanting to be with someone who has some career aspirations or ambition, but like most relationship problems, the solution is to sit down and talk out. First you need to establish some clarity. What are her expectations for you? Why does she feel the way that she does about working for a living despite having enough passive income to live comfortably? Why would you not working annoy her? Why does she care so much about developing yourself, and does that development strictly need to be tied to a job where you collect a paycheck?

Once you've figured out why she feels the way that she does, it might be possible to either convince her of your viewpoint, or come to a satisfying compromise. Would she be satisfied if you took one of your fun hobbies and made it a side-gig? Would that count as a job according to her criteria? Most people can't do that because it's hard to pay bills without taking all the fun out of it being a fun hobby, but without the financial pressure to produce, you could take it at your own pace, take breaks, do what you love and still make a "career" out of it.

What about school? It's not a job, but lots of people enjoy learning and if I did not have to worry about working to live I would absolutely take community college courses on topics that I'm interested in learning more about. That's another form of development that she might find acceptable in lieu of a job.

There are also more traditional "fun" jobs that have you working for an employer and collecting a paycheck that you might be able to tolerate on a part-time basis. Think big - work at an ice cream parlor in the summer, or wear a mascot costume for a sports team, or volunteer your time at a charity. These are things no sane person would think of as a career, but they could be entertaining or fulfilling distractions from your regular day-to-day if you are okay with doing them.

Again, I don't think you are in the wrong for wanting to stand your ground on this. These suggestions are just for if you want to do it to make her happy. You have the luxury of being able to not work, and that's an incredibly rare blessing. You shouldn't have to compromise on this just to appease her. If you want to take advantage of this unique financial position you are in, she should be able to understand that desire. If she can't, maybe you two aren't compatible? It's definitely a no assholes situation, but if you can't agree on something like this I would say an amicable breakup is warranted. She can romantically pursue someone who puts more value on work, and you are not reliant on her financially, so you could just be friends instead.

He isn't promoting independents here, though. He's advocating for either Adams or Cuomo to drop out so that centrist democrats can coalesce behind one of them and defeat Mamdani, the progressive candidate.

He may not be involved in politics anymore, but he's still advancing the DNC agenda with his statement here.

I just pour the grease from mine into a ramekin and then put that in the refrigerator, optionally cover it with plastic wrap if you are worried about contamination or smell. Most people use a jar with a lid but I don't cook fatty meats often enough to need a jar for all the grease I produce. If you left the pan out after cooking/overnight and the grease solidified before you could pour it, just heat it up again on the stove or in the oven until it turns back into a liquid. Obviously, wait until the pan has cooled enough to handle it without burning yourself while doing this pouring step, hot grease burns like hell and will send you straight to the emergency room with 3rd degree burns if it gets spilled on you.

Once it's in the container and in the refrigerator, it will solidify into a scoopable/spreadable semi-solid with a texture somewhere in between butter and ice cream. You can use it in place of fats or oils in other recipes (for example, if you need to grease a pan with butter or cooking spray before cooking, you can use a spoonful of the solid bacon grease instead). If you don't want to use it and just want to dispose of it safely instead, just wait for it to solidify in the fridge and then scoop it into the trash. Takes about two seconds and won't clog your plumbing

It does go bad eventually. The grease will get rancid if left alone for too long, and it will start to smell foul and anything you cook with it will taste terrible and make you sick. If you are going to save it, use it within a month or so if you leave it uncovered, or covered it can last longer but give it a smell test before you put it in a pan - it should have a neutral smell at room temperature and be white in color or have a very slight yellowish hue. Throw it out if you see any spots or discoloration.

A steak cooked in bacon grease is next level delicious. You should try it.

Is it bad that I had already assumed that this was happening all along? I feel like evangelical megachurches and politics have been joined at the hip for a while now. I guess a formal endorsement is a different thing than just complaining about who is/isn't in power, but still...

The Democratic establishment are almost as bad as Republicans are at this point. He beat his competition in the primary, so that's what voters want. I don't understand why they are debasing themselves like this, it's humiliatingly shameful.

Hello everyone,

There has been a lot of new traffic to Lemmy in the past few weeks due to the turmoil at Reddit. A lot of you may be Reddit refugees, like I am, and are missing their old favorite subs right about now.

I think it's more important than ever for regular users to step up and take an active role in rebuilding their communities, and I wasn't sure that things would ever get going unless somebody stepped up to the plate and made the effort, and I didn't want to wait around for someone else to take the initiative when I already had a strong desire to see this sort of content brought over to Lemmy.

Now that the first step has been taken, I'm inviting others who might be interested in building or managing this community to join me in making this the best version of asksciencefiction possible.

I have never been affiliated with /r/asksciencefiction or even been a moderator at reddit before. Preferably, I would like to hand off ownership of this community to somebody who has a strong desire to build and grow the community and enforce the rules. If that sounds like something you are interested in, please don't hesitate to send me a private message.

Thank you!
