A base plate that’s got a spring under it, except for a little nub that pokes the power button.
Terrible if you live in earthquake-prone areas.

Wait. Are we describing a bump stock for your computer?

Devils advocate: It may not be “pee tapes”, it may be video of him sexually assaulting a Miss Universe candidate.

Correct. I was not diagnosed 10 years ago.

I can’t believe that the sudden rise in diagnoses’ is being seen as anything other than the first generation of adults that take mental health seriously finally reached a point in life where they had health insurance and disposable income to focus on their own mental health.

I have had ADHD all my life. When my mom died, I found letters in her things from my school counselor advising I be tested. I found letters from pissed off family members telling her to get me tested.
She didn’t do any of that. But I do remember the time she told me she never got my sister tested for dyslexia because she knew “none of [her] babies were retarded.”

That article linked to another article about 50 Cent doing an investigative docuseries over Diddy, and apparently Diddy kept tapes of his parties, and that’s why folks were hesitant to speak out.
That seems familiar….

It would also be an unmitigated disaster for the U.S.

I wouldn’t say strange, so much as disappointing.

We feel like we have relationships with entertainers, and most of the time we feel they represent - well, something other than corporate fence sitting. Being reminded they’re a product more than a person really sucks the air out of the room.

The Kremlin has repeatedly said that any seizure of its assets would go against all the principles of free markets which the West proclaims and that it would undermine confidence in the U.S. dollar and euro while deterring global investment and undermining confidence in Western central banks.

Like establishing an economic collaborative consisting of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa that are all in talks to increase trade with each other, and ditch the dollar as their trade currency?
Like attempting to undermine the petrodollar as the world reserve currency for purchasing oil?

I don’t know what counters the west has in their bag, but it’s a little silly to make threats as if BRICS hasn’t been completely transparent about their plans the whole time.
It’s kind of an empty threat if you’ve been openly working on it for decades while the (more powerful) nations you plan to ratfuck have had time to prepare. I also don’t know how China would manage with a loss or rapid decrease in trade. They seem a bit too pragmatic than to follow Russia into a hole.

Some Russian officials have suggested that if Russian assets are confiscated then foreign investors' assets stuck in special so-called type "C" accounts in Russia could face the same fate.

I’m sure they’d have to target all western accounts at once. Targeting one type will lead to the rest quickly hemorrhaging their money out of country.
And I don’t think they’d wind up attracting new western investment for decades if they pulled a move like that.

I used to work with a “What?!” “Really?!?” “Oh My GOD?!” person. Sometimes, if someone she knew was around, she’d explain what on facebook had her in a tizzy.

It was like nails on a chalkboard. Constant rocks being flung through the fragile windowpane of my concentration.

I’m currently fairly ill (likely RSV, if the expired COVID tests are to be believed) and this is day 6 of moderate to severe insomnia.

A state of semi-delirium must be a good look for me, because I have received more complements on my writing in the last 3 days than I have in the last several years.

So a conservative blog outs him, even though he asked them to please respect his private life.

The church he cares enough about to deliver sermons at sees fit to release a public statement about it - amplifying the reach of the blog and drawing attention to it in the local community.

And then the local cops just happen to pull him over while he’s driving for a ‘wellness check’?

I’ve never, in my life, heard of a traffic stop wellness check. We know what they were doing. We know what that church was doing. And we know what that blog was doing.

What a tragedy. I hope everyone involved knows the stain they bear.

In addition to my normal skewed interpretation of the world/flights of fancy, I’m also running off 2 hours of sleep today and I really thought the picture accompanying the article was a picture of a French gangster.

I was so impressed at how the French approach even gang wars with a bit of pomp.
I was kind of disappointed when I opened the article to see that she’s just like, a cop. I mean, still fancy, I guess, but not “blastin’ with gold filigree on my hat” fancy.

Also - horrifying. I hope they get that under control.
