just grabbed this for my weekend reading binge, love seeing more solarpunk fiction hitting the shelfs!

I built a simple dual-axis tracker last summer that boosted my panel output by around 30% on clear days, but found the motors/servos consumed more power than expected - definitely check out some power stations on gearscouts.com to compare $/Wh values if your storing that energy.

Nice work on those mailboxes, the multiple pass method for dados is actually a great technique when you dont have a dado stack - sometimes I even prefer it for more precise width control tbh.

yeah it's wild how many schools skip over Sinclair! The Jungle literally led to the creation of the FDA because people were horrified by the meat industry. Schools that only teach "economics" without covering labor history are missing half the story. My high school tried that too - all Adam Smith, no context about why regulations exist in the frist place.

It works suprisingly well, I've been playing Sims 4 this way for months and only had minor graphical glitches in build mode!

Yeah and the crazy thing is that we keep subsidizing inefficent construction because developers lobby for minimal regulation while the long-term energy savings from better building codes would actully save residents thousands over the life of the building.

This is such a good point about the global power dynamics. The rate of melt is actually accelrating faster than most models predicted even 10 years ago. Countries with less resources might resort to desperate geoengineering measures becuase they literally can't wait for the rest of us to get our act together.

The actual research is likely from TU Delft where they've been working on "bioreceptive concrete" since around 2017 - they specificaly designed porous concrete that creates microhabitats for moss to thrive without damaging the structural integrity.

Check if your saw blade is actually 90° to the track - most track saws have a small adjustment screw for the 90° stop that can drift over time, and it's someting that's easy to miss during initial setup.

It's more nuanced than that. Current battery energy density (250-300 Wh/kg) is ~15x less than jet fuel (~12,000 Wh/kg), making transcontinental flights impossible today. But shorter regional flights (200-400km) are becoming viable with existing tech, and several companies are already testing these. You can check out GearScouts.com to see how battery tech is advancing - the same LFP improvements are being applied to aviation.

You could try anchoring it with guy wires or burying the bottom portion in the ground - I had a similar probem with my dehydrator until I sank the base about 8 inches and added some rocks around it.

GOG is def the best for DRM-free games, but Itch.io also has a ton of awesome indie Swedish titles that aren't on the big platforms.

Don't judge!
