It's trash as an idea generator.

The only useful thing I've gotten out of a (text) AI is asking it to guess functions of keyword mechanics in games. Like I was designing personality traits for AI leaders in a strategy game, and had a dozen bad candidates for "over produces defenses." So I told ChatGPT to try to guess the meanings of bunkerist, hoxhaist, prepper, turtle, protectionist, survivalist, isolationist, guardian. Which did narrow it down to bunkerist, turtle, and protectionist (note that this is literally wrong in the case of protectionist). Normally I'd try to poll a bunch of random people for this sort of thing, and try to avoid anyone who's trying to be clever. So it did save some work there.

It won't come up with anything useful going the other way around though ("list some possible names for traits of AI leaders in a strategy game"). Like I said, it doesn't work as an idea generator.

I guess in general it's probably useful if you're in a situation where you need to make sure your writing is very very clear. If ChatGPT can correctly summarize what you wrote, it's probably safe for people who are distracted or bad at reading or whatever.

I think most people prefer magic points. Spell slots are just kind of a thing that D&D happened to have. If D&D wasn't such a cultural force in defining what an RPG even is, spell slots would be a weird quirky thing that one RPG has and everyone is like "huh that's kind of interesting" and think of D&D as "that one with the weird spell slots."

Not that spell slots are meritless. They're weird and people want magic to be weird, they give you a reason to use low-level spells, and they somewhat encourage using spells flexibly (but they also encourage over-relying on the most flexible possible spells; just memorize five copies of Polymorph). But yeah, MP is the most default resource mechanic you can get.

One of the worst parts of getting older is that my mouth's spice tolerance keeps going up, but my stomach's spice tolerance keeps going down.

One of these is near me, and my parents fell for the bullshit. So now they're incrementally more afraid for me, because this store is making shit up, and the media is uncritically parroting it.

That target was within a block of two grocery stores and a drug store, all three of which had bigger signs and more parking. Also it was inside a building whose doors locked two hours before the Target closed, so nobody could get inside it. Also it's a fancy building that almost certainly charges them higher rent than their competitors are paying.

Yeah I'm sure it's theft, and not the fact that you decided to open a store nobody could get to on expensive land surrounded by competition.

That sounds really neat actually. I don't think it'd be very hard to add, either, it's just some hidden assets that show themselves a bit after it starts raining. Roughly the same as river and waterfall effects, just at funny scales. It'd be a rather large amount of work to place all of them if it's a big game with a lot of roofs and gutters, but still a good use of time compared to some of the crap AAA games throw artists at.

Sounds terrifying to try to do in a procedural game though.
