I can't think of them almost ever helping me in any way. The vast majority of things I worry about never end up happening and even in the cases where being prepaired has helped/saved me I likely would've been prepaired without all the worrying too because of common sense.

I don't see much to apologize here for. Suggesting that we release polar bears in cities is quite obviously a joke - not a serious suggestion. To get offended by this and demand an apology as if it's something he genuinely wants to do is how you get people to vote for ones like Trump.
Many of them. Personally I'm just using my adblocker for that since I'm only using Lemmy on Firefox.
"Opposing fascism is more important than following posting guidelines"
- Internet activists, probably
But for real, I agree. Forcing US politics down the throat of everyone just builds resentment and makes people completely check out from it. I have content filters set to hide all of it. I'd like an option to show me the most important ones but that is not an option. It's to either be firehosed by Trump and Musk articles or blocking it all. I choose the latter.
I've wanted a pickup truck since I was a little kid. Specifically all black murdered out one. Now I have it - 2007 Nissan Navara King Cab with a camper shell and I love everything about it (except that it's rusting faster than I can keep up fixing it)
What's surprising to me is how much attention and compliments it gets from other people. I don't live in the US but pickups aint that rare here either - granted most of them are more or less stock while mine is slighly modded. I have people coming up to me at parking lots asking about it, kids are giving me thumbs up when I drive by and my customers are constantly commenting on it. I didn't want a big american truck as I prefer to keep low profile and not draw too much attention but apparently I just as well could have.
Just like major wars got more common under Biden. Doesn't mean they're in any way related though. Judging by the article, this sounds like a mechanical issue / pilot error.
I guess I’m the opposite then - I love guns, yet I probably wouldn’t get one even if I could. I definitely wouldn’t carry one. It’s too easy to make hasty, irreversible decisions with a firearm.
Carrying a gun means that every altercation has the potential to become life-threatening. I wouldn’t want to end up in a brawl while armed and risk having my own weapon used against me if I got overpowered. That’s something cops, for example, have to constantly be aware of.
I have a feeling that the "punch the nazies" people who are the loudest online are the ones nowhere to be found when the shit actually hits the fan. The ones who actually would aren't talking about it on social media and especially not on Lemmy.
Reading the news and posting angry messages on social media isn’t fighting. If you’re doing something beyond that, good for you - but the vast majority of so-called "activists" aren’t. They’re just venting anger and spreading it to others while achieving nothing worthwhile.
If my goal were to "change the world," I’d probably live in despair too. But it’s not. Instead, I run a small local business where I help people with their everyday technical challenges. I get to make a tangible difference in people’s lives and see their gratitude firsthand. Life has never felt more meaningful.
It's always going to be a tradeoff. If it's unmoderated then you're going to encounter a lot more spam and off-topic which you have to deal with by yourself but with moderators you're going to get power tripping. With a truly competent AI moderator you could possibly get around this but not with humans.
In my case, I'm already doing the majority of managing what I see on my feed by myself so I doubt I'd see a huge difference were the moderators to dissapear.
