Pretty good! I'm going to be able to get the first part to my custom PC next month (GPU, Raedon 6800 XT) so I'm pretty excited!

Oh :( As annoying as that is I can't bring myself to completely take it off the board. Thanks for the warning, though! Nobody's mentioned that so far :)

Framework has quite a nice selection and the modularity is an amazing feature! Although having Linux preinstalled is a pretty big draw, and Sysytem76 has some VERY nice looking machines. Thank you!

Oh, really? I knew AMD was more popular among Linux users, but I never really made the connection that it was better, lol. Thanks!

I'm considering getting a laptop for Linux and want to know a few things before I do. Some important info before I start: I don't plan on using the laptop for anything too intense, mainly writing, digital art, streaming, browsing, and maybe very mild video editing (cropping at least and shortening at most). I would also prefer the laptop to be inexpensive, preferably under 1000 USD

I mainly want to know if whether I should get a laptop by a manufacturer that specializes in Linux or a laptop that runs a different OS (exp: Windows) to install Linux on later. I've also scouted out quite a few distros and have a good idea of which ones I would like using

I've already looked at a few mainline Linux hardware producers like System76 but want to know if it's worth it before sinking money into it

VPNs protect your IP address, which is useful, but it ends there. Your IP is known to your VPN provider and can even still be found by those tech-savvy enough if you don't take the right precautions. Basically, VPNs are useful, but don't expect them to be the ultimate privacy multi-tool. It's more like one of many different tools to protect yourself online

The light theme is good, although I would recommend changing the yellow text to a darker shade, or changing the color entirely (yellow on white is really hard to read). And the dark theme is perfect! The icons are amazing, too :)

Oh they're really sticking by this stupid decision aren't they. Well, they can't complain about being laid to rest if they're the ones who dug the grave, I guess

As sad as I am by how Reddit turned out, this was the kick I needed to start truly indulging in the fediverse! Everybody's been nice so far, and I hope that it continues to be that way

I've been getting a lot of lag on the site and want to know if it's something anybody else is experiencing lag as well

I'm planning on building a PC soon and, while I have done plenty of research, I'd like to hear advice from people who have experience in the area personally. It's also just nice talking to other people in general, lol

All your points are very true, unfortunately. It just saddens me seeing companies hurt the very community that even allowed them to rise to popularity

[-] PurrJPro@beehaw.org 9 points 1 year ago

It's sad to see this happen but I'm (unfortunately) not surprised. Whenever a site/software/etc becomes the main/only thing most people use it starts taking advantage of that. I just hope it happens less in the future with the rise of decentralized nd federated social media

It makes me sad that a site as big as Reddit is letting down so much of it's userbase for a quick buck. At least it's making people look for decentralized sites like this more, I suppose

An all pronouns using aroace agender with a deep love of tech, videogames, writing, art, and gender non conformity. I recently graduated from high school, and I am planning on going to tech/writing. I'm also planning on building my own PC soon! It'll hopefully help me understand technology a lot more :3
