For the conservatives, it makes them feel powerful, like this is all working, like they're the self reliant culture warriors they always dreamed of being. For the empathetic, it makes us feel like we don't have enough power to band together and resist them. That's why right now songs and soup are everything. They make you feel like you're connected to whoever taught you the song, sings the song with you, or that you teach the song to. The soup fills your belly and gives you the energy to power forward, and the soup you make is also one of the few true choices you have in desperate times. You're surrounded by the illusion of choice, but soup, soup is something we the underclasses own. You can put anything in your soup as long as you like the resulting soup, and when you feed it to someone else they receive the results of your choices, and they gain an understanding of you.

Conservatives fear empathy, and they've announced it in broad daylight. They fear it because its what erodes their movement. It's what gives us the power to act against them.
