They must have done that for the American broadcast too

I'm not entirely sure some of these are a great idea, but what do y'all think?

Honestly, if I were to choose suicide, I'd go for a nitrogen slumber. Seems like a painless way to go.

I mean, you could probably put a short version of your title like "How Polluted Are Our Waterways", but you should have a tighter title that's not a question like "Our Polluted Waterways and the Threat They Pose".

He tripped in front of the chickens while gathering their eggs, destroying all their hard work, and now they look at him in disgust and disappointment.

And that's why you never keep all your eggs in one basket.

If they are 12 hour shifts, so that the people can head home at 5 with everyone else. If they are 8 hour shifts, usually for the later shifts to have an okay life balance: 5-2 for day shift, 2-11 for second shift, and a third shift option that overlaps.

Even though I'm a night person, 5 is a common time to wake up for enough people who presumably want to be productive, and the benefit of getting off work before the school day ends has to be enticing. And on the second shift side of things, they get to have lunch with loved ones before going to work, and 11 is early enough that they could potentially go out for drinks or other fun before bed.

It's also nice that for either shift, the person has time to run errands at a time when most stores are open and activity levels are low.

I wish I could find it and share the actual quote, but someone on Twitter (iirc) posted something like, "the best way to approach urbanism and biking to conservatives is to say 'I'm for traditional neighborhoods that use independent transportation methods without government overreach' or 'I want fiscally responsible transportation methods'."

To no one's surprise, these refer to walkable cities, using walking or biking, and include buses with the second quote.

Let me get this straight. Valve decides to break into a market with a niche product few people have purchased from other vendors in the past (GPD, Aya, etc), says "we want this to be affordable and just work", releases a 1.0 to test the waters, and you think their initial device should have had OLED?

I can see why you don't run any companies.

I appreciate the irony in censoring the person's name with yellow

Before you perform another task on that hard drive, try photorec. You might be able to get a majority of your files back if they're important

I work in electronics manufacturing and I'm torn on this issue.

On the one hand, fuck Apple for requiring to go through so many hoops.

On the other hand, every device my company makes has an internal checksum and if one PCB is installed incorrectly, the main board throws a fit because the device checksum doesn't match.

It sounds like Apple may do something similar for their products and it sort of makes sense: determined people try something crazy like take an older iPhone and install a newer Wireless module or replace Lightning with USB-C. Neither of those things were intended by Apple, and there's a huge potential that it wouldn't work.

With that said, it's absolutely overkill for things like display or digitizer replacements, which are going to be the majority of repairs on iPhones.

Tl;Dr - fuck Apple, this is dumb, the users have the right to repair

I wish someone would send me $5 out of pity for my non-malware code.

It's been getting ridiculous. One of the apps on my partner's phone recently warned that they wouldn't open with Developer options enabled.

This app is a fucking drink menu and digital punch card for a popular coffee shop, what could be done from the developer options that affects this app in any way? Especially since I only enabled developer options to speed up the godawful Android animations. Out of principal I've stopped going there and deleted the app.

Here's a massive list of "Alternative Internet" software. There are some blockchain items in there, but otherwise it's pretty extensive.

I have a solar panel from a cheap Walmart device I tore down. Hooking it to a Multi-Meter shows it's about 2.25V (probably supposed to be 2.5V but runs a little low?).

What's something useful I can do with it?

Doug "quickly" goes through his 13, tongue-in-cheek ways to kill a community. IMO it's a great companion piece to Strong Towns and makes for a great discussion piece with other community members.

Take the smallest pilot hole drillbit you have (1/16" or 1mm) and drill 5-8 holes in the bottom of your trash can. This not only allows the air to escape as the bag fills up, but also makes it easier to remove the trash bag later.

I've done this with two trash cans now and recommend it to everyone.
