Thank you for saying this. Yes, its getting way harder and its not easy finding an older phone to install these ROMs. Even with what's going on with how Google is reacting with Graphene OS. They are slowly locking y'all out of the Pixels, and AOSP dropped support of the Pixels with Android 16.

(This is one example) The latest update to the Pixel 10 camera is locking out Graphene OS users cause it needs Play Services in order to work

It is (so far) but I wanted a phone with a SD card slot. Pixels don't have that and also I just don't want a pixel.

Thanks😁. Its my favorite out of all of her albums, especially with seeing her live last month for opening for Evanescence. Such an amazing band.

If you go to Teracubes website, getting the degoogled version of this phone was only 50 USD more then the regular android version they have, which is nothing in comparison of how much these Linux phones, preinstalled degoogled phones and even dumphones are being sold for. And that too, the tinkering is not easy like most make it out to be, unless you get a Pixel to install Graphene OS (which is what im realizing that most use on here)

Getting this phone lessened the headache by a landslide, and it's the most affordable without spending an arm and leg on a dam phone that might not even work properly (Linux phones) , a phone that is just to expensive (dumbphone), or finding out your tinkering with the wrong model device or completely brick a phone ( I can personally say this is what happened to me when I tried to degoogled my Unihertz Jelly Star)

Again, like I had to tell someone else, not everyone on here is super tech savy. And there's gonna be more people like that coming here, especially with what's going on with Reddit.

Unfortunately, they're the only phone company that we have in the states that accept phones like this. Even with what's going on with the dumbphone and Linux phones market, only choice you have is Tmobile or a carrier that is own by T-Mobile.

The Teracube is running e/OS.

For the US Market, the only phones they have that are available online and even in store are the 15 and 15R.(Really expensive phones BTW) If you want any other model, you gotta go to either Amazon, Back Market, or Best Buy (sometimes you can get an older model from here).

The models for OnePlus are very limited, it used to never be like that.

First off, I didn't degoogle the new phone I got. I brought it from Muera cause I didn't want to go through the debacle of the "finding the exact model number" requirement when it comes to installing some of these OS systems.

Also, this is my first time on Lemmy. Never been here before and just checking it out. I am just exploring their different UI until I found one that's the most comfortable to me. Not a pro at this at all.

And most don't have that knowledge of looking at those technicalities, I know I dont. You people on some of these techy platforms really need to stop assuming that everyone knows everything about hardware/software of tech.

If your really butthurt over a rookie ass question, that's a you problem. Along with it being just a comment on how I just didn't like how the interface looked. Grow up.

That was actually my first choice I was gonna do as well. I got myself the Nord N200 5g but I unfortunately received the wrong model from Back Market. I returned it and ended up getting this phone for less of a headache to try to find the exact model of a phone in order to install LineageOS. That's my only problem with them.

Thanks for the heads up on that. I haven't heard of him but will keep a look out.

Its just Blorp being Blorp😅

I'll see how I feel as time goes on. Still gettung used to it all.

I'm on noob on Blorp, but the icons to comment on someones comment on a post versus when sending a private message to someone need to be switched.

Ive been using google's services since 2017-2018, now its time to finally depart from that. I just got it in the mail yesterday and I'm already in love with it. So much lighter and easier to carry than my samsung galaxy. Gonna transfer everything over in a sim card, switch to Tmobile and ill be good to go. 😁

Hello everyone, since this would be my first post within the Lemmy squad, I'm deciding to talk about my degoogling process.

I have learn most of it via scrolling through Reddit, but I was able to find apps that I would like to use, to cater to my needs.

First off my phones,

I currently have 3 phones, one for work, one for personal and one I was using as a MP3 Player (phone is completely broken, lol)

My Work phone: Samsung Galaxy A36 5g

Unfortunately, I need a device that has access to google/microsoft apps for work. Unless something changes, this is what I currently use.

My personal phone: Samsung Galaxy A16 5g.

A16 5g -> Teracube 2s (Degoogled version with e/OS)

I'm waiting for this phone to come in the mail and ill be transfering everything over. its basic, got a replaceable battery, headphone jack, sd card/sim card slot, with a 6inch screen. I really wanted a Linux phone, but the market for them right now is either too expensive or they have issues with "working like a phone" - (unable to simply call/text).

I just want a phone that works and can do the following;

  1. Call and texting
  2. Emails
  3. Calenders
  4. Note taking apps
  5. Music/podcast
  6. A app for storing my books
  7. Accessing a Web browser
  8. Need a Weather app
  9. Youtube alternative for every now and then
  10. Maps

That's pretty much it.

Now here are the apps I'm transfering everything over towards:

Messages & Phone Calls

Google Messages -> Quik; Google Phone/Contact -> Fossify phone\contact

Email; Gmail -> Tuta mail

Fossify apps: for some general things

Voice recorder

Camera

Notes

Clock

App Stores: experimenting with these stores

Aurora Store

Neo Store

F-Droid

Droid-ify.

Browser; Startpage & DuckDuckGo

Calender; Samsung Calander -> Fossify calander and Tuta Calander (email only)

Notes app; Colornote and Fossify Notes

Internet browsing

Reddit -> Lemmy

Lemmy on mobile: Blorp and Interstellar

Security Checks

Privacy Scanner (app on Aurora store??)

Streaming; Youtube -> Rumble + Flow

Maps: Google Maps -> MapQuest & CoMap

MapQuest: the honest, closest thing to google maps that is not owned by google. Well... It was at one point the google maps before google came along.

Weather: Weawow

Files; Samsung Files -> Fossify File Manager

Gallery/Photos; Samsung Photos -> Ente Photos

Launcher: Yagni Launcher

Keyboard: Samsung Keyboard -> Urik Keyboard

Books(phone) : Episteme oss

Calculator -> Unitto (Neo Store)

Currently trying out Fauxx

Unihertz Jelly Star (the now broken MP3 player)

Canta and Shizuku (debloating) - I was experimenting with these apps when learning on reddit about debloating, but while doing that - I can't use my music apps since it'll restart itself. This device, even with unlocking the bootloader and opening USB debugging, is almost impossible to degoogle. Installing a diffrent OS system dosent work either. Only thing I can do to it now is factory reset it.

I definitly advise to not buy it. The software on this phone is garbage.😅

I am also learning on how to use Linux on my PC and moving away from Apple products (just an Ipad) as well.

Well thats all for now.....
