When you are running a server just to store files (a NAS) you generally set it up so multiple physical hard disks are joined together into an array so if one fails, none of the data is lost. You can replace a failed drive by taking it out and putting in a new working drive and then the system has to copy all of the data over from the other drives. This process can take many hours to run even with the 10-20 TB drive you get today, so doing the same thing with 140 TB drive would take days.

I live in a blue state and while I definitely do not want to live in a dictatorship, I am also not ok with abandoning the impoverished in the red states to that either. Just because the government of the red states are idiots doesn’t mean the population is worthy to be sacrificed.

I bet other ransomware creators hate this. If victims can’t even get their data back by paying, more victims will stop paying across the board.

Tor has its own problems and is not infallible.

Not even bothering to follow great circle lines, what a rebel.

I had a website not let me enter a proton.me email address, when I changed it to my custom.fyi address, it worked fine. They wanted a three letter TLD.

It’s so weird when people get weird about “y” being a vowel or not when any time it makes the “e” or “I”sound it is a vowel. (Any, try, anything ending in -y or -ly)

A vowel isn’t a vowel because it is aeiou, it is because it makes a vowel sound.

If I asked this question during an interview and the candidate gave me this list of assumptions, I would recommend the candidate. This is exactly what I would be looking for by asking a vague question, not if they memorized the answer to a bunch of riddles, but how they thought and what their line of thought was for troubleshooting the answer.

It is said that when English went from old English (which was gendered) to modern English, part of the problem was that the genders of the Germanic roots didn’t match the genders of the French influences so the people chose to just skip it all together.

Why are people seeing any advertisements on media they are hosting?

My cat’s whiskers were breaking short and when I noticed I switched to a shallow bowl designed for cats. It immediately helped. Cats Ike plates and shallow bowls over tight spaces.

EFCore has landed in unstable, and this will have consequences.

There has been several conservative memes about golf courses going away or liberals taking them away. Did I miss some news about that?

I have a DS920+ which I haven't upgraded the ram for, so it still has the default 4GB on it. Reading around, it sounds like Synology only supports adding an additional 4GB for it, but some other sites mention putting an additional 8 or 16 into it.

Has anyone upgraded theirs with more ram? What have you added and what were your experiences?
