Europe was considered a backwater fringe by the time the Mongols under Subutai arrived. I mean, if Europe is inherently superior, it would not have been considered as "backwater" in the first place. The more prosperous and more developed areas then were Middle East, Central Asia and the Far East. If the Mongols continued advancing and ravaged those who did not submit, Europe would have been set back a lot further or may not even have ever become the major power as it did. Being unscathed by the Mongol destruction gave them a leg up later. It is very much the same story as the USA. US was considered second or at the very least third rate by Europeans. But not being destroyed by the Second World War and one of the two remaining major economy and manufacturing country gave US it the massive advantage post-war.

Because you aren't the target.

I definitely hope so, like it will with dotcom bubble. If the bubble burst delays the rise of killer robots, then I am all for another economic recession!

IMO the Mongols would have eventually adapted if they get into Vienna or in other major European cities. The Mongols under Genghis Khan also did not have siege equipment when they invaded the Jin dynasty. But after conquering the Jin, they acquired the Chinese engineers who built siege equipment for them.

For sub-Saharan Africans, their equivalent of the Mongols is either the Bantu or Europeans, or both.

After the slow drip feed expansion of the Bantus, but before the sudden colonisation of Europe, many African societies were doing well in their own right. Timbuktu was a literal gold mine and the centre of learning. There was also the Great Zimbabwe, the ruins of buildings so great and impressive that 19th century European archaeologists initially could not believe Africans built them. West Africa had been flourishing trading hubs for early European explorers and traders.

I have Jack and Jones jeans for years and haven't had a problem with them. They still look as new as on the day I bought them. Plus they're more affordable.

I don't know about the Slavs, but tbf, the "white" race and the categorisation and conceptualisation of race itself has been arbitrary from the beginning. Not long ago, the Italians and Irish weren't considered white. Who goes where depends on the person making the categorisation. The English despised the Irish and Iberians, so both were lumped together as "Irish Iberian".

As in work wise? I am aware for as long as I could remember to not always put in more than one hundred percent into a workplace. I have always heard of stories of companies and employers abusing their employees, despite said employees having done more than they were asked for. Twenty years service is not always rewarded well. Many senior workers are intentionally sidelined or underpaid to make them to quit; because it is cheaper for employers to hire new, cheaper workers than keep those with decades of experience.

More often, going the extra mile is not even about getting recognition for some individuals. Some people are workaholic to distract themselves from their personal issues outside of work.

Dear corporations, is this why we can access your apps websites for free? You are not stealing our information, selling them to data brokers and advertisers, and weaponising our interests to vote against our own interests, do you?

I see this from handful of people who are either immigrants or part of traditionally marginalised backgrounds. It's stupid and pathetic, it reeks of desperation, and you are not going to be spared because bigots don't care.

Truly living up to their tankie label.

According to Bloomberg, names like Mark Zuckerberg, Safra Catz, and Jamie Dimon all dumped massive blocks of stock while prices were still high. By the time Trump rolled out new tariffs on April 2, tech stocks had already started bleeding. Every one of those early sellers dodged a bullet, and the timing is loud as hell.

Executives sold billions as Trump’s tariffs loomed

The first quarter wasn’t quiet. Trump’s team hinted at sweeping tariffs leading up to April 2, a day he branded as “Liberation Day.” That threat shook investors. By the time the announcement dropped, billions had already been erased from global markets. The tech world felt it the hardest. Elon Musk reportedly lost $129 billion this year as stocks tied to phones, chips, and software kept slipping. A few billionaires are already buying the dip, but plenty have already made their exit.

There is more to life you know? When will liberals learn.

Edit: I changed the title so that people will understand what I am getting at. It is important to realise that economic anxiety trumps other concerns, especially in the growing wealth inequality and the overt shows of oligarchic rule. As Franklin Roosevelt said: People who are hungry and out of a job are the stuff of which dictatorships are made.

As everyone knows, Reddit is cannibalising itself and the longer time goes on, the users will have deleted their accounts and/or migrated to somewhere else, or they will simply forget about their accounts and log-in details.

I wasn't fully convinced before that Putin has Trump in his pocket, but after that stunt, I am convinced that he is under Putin's thumb. Trump and co. could have had marching orders from Putin to do exactly that. Also, this is something that Putin have done and would do, publicly humiliating someone on live TV.

Why would they want to win anyway? When they are already winning from so much corporate donations???!!!

And unfortunately lemmy.ml is getting more online traffic recently.
