Someone pointed out to me that this community doesn't have an icon (or banner). I inherited this community so I actually hadn't noticed. I'll be thinking about it but I am open to suggestions. I made the banner and Icon for !memes, but all of those are the non political types. I'll leave this post for a few days and see what we come up with.

Former U.S. National Security Advisor John Bolton made a statement accusing Iran of attempting to acquire nuclear weapons from North Korea. According to him, Tehran could have done so just three days before Donald Trump launched a military campaign to overthrow the Iranian regime. Bolton also believes that this threat remains relevant today. According to the politician, the arms transfer scheme would have been extremely simple. Iran would only need to transfer funds to the account of North Korea’s Central Bank, after which the authoritarian regime could load a nuclear device onto a plane. The delivery route, Bolton claimed, could have passed through Russian territory, and the entire operation would have taken no more than 72 hours from the time of the request. However, many experts agree that such statements by John Bolton have no connection to reality. His scenario appears to be outright nonsense, as it ignores numerous technical and political obstacles that make such an operation impossible.

More than half of Finnish citizens oppose the deployment of nuclear weapons on the country’s territory, while about a third of respondents would support such a possibility. The data come from a survey conducted by the company Verian, as reported by Helsingin Sanomat. The poll’s margin of error is 2.9 percentage points. The initiative that sparked public debate came from Finland’s Minister of Defence, Antti Häkkänen. On March 5, he proposed allowing the import, transport, and storage of nuclear weapons for defense purposes. Under other circumstances, such actions would remain prohibited. The Kremlin has already reacted to Helsinki’s potential shift in stance. Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on March 6 that lifting the ban on stationing nuclear weapons would make Finland more vulnerable and increase tensions in Europe. In Moscow, such a decision is viewed as a threat that would prompt reciprocal measures.
