Seconded, Ive replayed that game like 3 times already. The first one had an amazing story imo, even though the puzzles could be a little difficult, especially the hidden ones. I've sadly only played a few hours of the second one, due to the game engine change (from Source to Unreal I think?) movement feels too different and the story didnt get me hooked right away like the first one did. Still going to finish it at some point though

Exactly, those who make the decisions to send soldiers to war should be sent to fight themselves, if not gun in hand at least as front line commanders or something so they feel the same danger and see the same horrors as the human fodder they so happily throw at their "enemies"

On the bunker drill, the former minister said that all secretaries of state - not just defence - have a desk and a bed ready for them in a bunker.

This is not so they are able to survive a nuclear attack "for re-populating our islands after the apocalypse" but "because their departments are as integral to the war effort as the MoD".

Because it's precisely these politicians who should be repopulating after a potential apocalypse /s

Alternate title: "Former military guy can only think about conflict and makes war mongering comments to scare politicians and population"

Transport Tycoon Deluxe was amazing, as a kid it took me so long to understand how the game worked (being from a non-English speaking country it was mostly trial and error) but once i understood i spent hours on it every day. I still remember the excitement of completing my first campaign, and getting the pop-up message in 2050 that I won the game, such a wonderful feeling.

There is an open source remake of it called OpenTTD available on steam, which is the same game with quality of life improvements, better graphics (as far as pixel style games go), and lots of customizability options that I still play to this day, it still is one of my favourite games of all time
