Fun(?) fact regarding a *Defiant-*class ship landing on a planet.

Per Ex Astris Scientia, while the Defiant MSD had visible landing struts fairly early on (the revised MSD introduced in "Shattered Mirror"), it seems no one thought to inform the writers:

The real-world reason for the Defiant never landing is that the producers were not aware that there were landing struts visible in the MSD. Ron D. Moore said in an interview with LCARScom.net: "The Defiant has landing gear? You have to remember that things like CD-ROMs and the various "official" manuals put out by Paramount are not done in conjunction with the writing/producing staffs and that the authors are usually simply extrapolating information based on what's actually been seen on screen."

the shuttlebay appears to be in the nose assembly, where the deflector dish, docking port, and phaser emitter usually are.

There's always room for more shit in the nose of a Defiant.

I'm quite happy with the way it ultimately went, but it's a pretty interesting thought experiment.

It'll make one hell of an oral history some day.

This is a few months old, but I don't remember seeing it before. I'm a sucker for this kind of "inside baseball" information.

I think that was Wesley on "Prodigy," but it's possible - probable, even - that I'm forgetting something.

With all this talk about the multiverse, I can't help but wonder whether we'll get a tip of the cap to the mycelial network.

This game came out in 2021 as an Apple Arcade exclusive, which means I have not played it, and quickly forgot it existed.

It's a mobile game, so adjust your expectations accordingly, but this review caught my eye, as this game apparently has no time gates or microtransactions (or, at least it didn't three years ago).

It apparently came out on Steam in June, and there's a free demo there that I might check out.

Details are weirdly hard to come by, but it looks like it will launch on Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox later this month.

Has anyone played this thing? Is it worth your time and money?

Not your average average Starfleet officer! I'm beaming in to the first season of @StarTrek: Starfleet Academy on @ParamountPlus.

It's very possible - in 2001, it would have been harder to find things that weren't influenced by "The Matrix."

The plot setup itself isn't too original for Trek - DS9's "The Assignment" comes to mind.

It looks like Trudeau wasn't asking her to resign - he was looking to shuffle her out of the role and into a different cabinet post. Which isn't exactly a vote of confidence.

I swear, this story said something about Canada Post agreeing to a 5% intirim raise last night, but that doesn't seem to be in there any more.

Well, that's a bombshell.

Yeah, unfortunately basic geography means there's likely a hard limit on how much diversification is realistic.

We absolutely should do everything we can to reduce our reliance on the US, but options become limited once you remove rail and road from the equation.

I think this is an extremely lousy headline, but the content is good.

Firstly, the headline slightly misquotes what Matalas actually said (emphasis added):

“We wrote nine episodes at one point and the network was like, ‘No, we don’t really understand this, it’s a bit too sci-fi, it’s a bit too in-Star Trek.’

I think a story being a little too "inside baseball" and reliant on stuff from decades ago is a perfectly valid note, especially when we're talking about ideas like this:

The idea was that Guinan’s bar was presented as a normal bar in Los Angeles, but if you knew the right thing to do, you could go into the back through the telephone phone booth and that was Rick’s Café and it was a stopping point for all these different species that were actually there on Earth with a ‘Do not interfere’ thing happening.

The stuff about COVID messing with the writing and shooting schedule is understandable, and created problems that can be seen in many TV shows filmed around that time. All the same, it makes me wish they had decompressed the schedule and not rushed through things as much as they did.

The comments about there being a lot of different ideas in season two are interesting, since I think she overall series' biggest flaw is that it crammed a lot of ideas, many of which I like quite a bit, into only 30 episodes, with few (none?) of them being fully explored.

And regarding the Jurati Borg...I don't know, I never found that confusing in the slightest. I think their intent came through just fine.
