Agree. I have a soda stream and it's great. I do buy the syrups occasionally (sugar free) but there are plenty of other ways to add flavor.

Those numbers are accurate . I really don't understand how more people I work with haven't retired. I made sure to avoid too much lifestyle creep but I can imagine it's addicting for some. I'm 40 and making the switch out of tech soon. I couldn't imagine doing this another 10-20 years.
How is it easy to get banned?
Why do you have "5 or 7" apps? Being able to communicate externally, with consistency, is the reason for email, that's it. If anyone sends me an email with a question or comment that isn't hyper specific I immediately tell them to go post in a relevant slack channel so others can search for the question/comment in the future.
Bezos is still Executive Chair on the board of directors, who Jassy reports to. Nothing controversial would be done without Bezos knowing.
I backed the Librem 5 and waited years. I was somewhat disappointed at the delivery but understood that Purism was sticking to specific requirements and advancement of full open source phones. I imagine there will be less of a gap in hardware as projects happen so hopefully there's a Linux native device for 1k with decent specs soon.
Was just using that as an example. It would be great to see a Linux device with this capability. I have played around with a few Linux phones and convergence was a feature that received attention so I think there's hope.
Agree. Sometimes I want a tablet, sometimes a laptop but I don't need or want 2 separate devices of that size. I recall quite a few Android projects (Mirabook, Project Linda) that would use a phone with a laptop dock but I'd prefer a phone as a standalone device and a secondary, larger & more powerful, device that can have multiple forms.
789k was pay + severance for Katherine Maher who left in 2021. Now that does seem excessive, I don't know how that number came about or why severance was 600k but the year before Katherine's comp was 406k. The compensation for the current CEO is 534k for 2023 per https://projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/organizations/200049703
Of course that seems like a lot of money, and it is, but to put it in perspective, I am just another software engineer and I make more than that. In HCOL areas, at "big tech" it's common for entry level SDEs with a BS to make 160-180k.
So as I stated in a different comment, your criticism seems misplaced. What you have a problem with is really the financial situation our society is dealing with, and that's perfectly reasonable. I would 100% agree that current wealth/pay distribution needs to be addressed.
Why should non-profits not want to "rake in tons of cash" if it helps advance the mission of the non-profit?
Taking Vegetation of North America instead of Physics 2, as a science elective, was one of my worst college choices. Forestry students had multiple classes that overlapped while the handful of us CS majors simply had to wonder if the TA was messing with us when they picked up a twig in class and asked "what tree is this from".
