Renters have two options:

  • get fucked
  • move (and get fucked)

At least if the homeowner sells they get the windfall.

I was living in a neighborhood that gentrified and my rent went up a "life altering" amount. I had to move to a different, shittier neighborhood and had nothing to show for it. If a property owner has the same thing happen, they may be forced to sell, but they will get a massive windfall. Renters get nothing besides a kick in the butt.

Tea party was partially real. But it was basically petite bourgeois: car dealership owners and the like. This was also the main component of Jan 6th. These people aren't a huge constituency but there are a lot more of them than billionaires.

It's really incredible. Then again, there's a theory I heard that Israelis like it when Jews feel/are threatened elsewhere in the world, because it promotes Zionism.

Mozilla executives are once again carrying water for Google.

If there is any doubt who they work for, watching them testify in defense of Google's monopoly should be all you need.

This honestly makes me a little conflicted about the government black-bagging immigrants off the street.

Pete will lose the 2028 election to JD Vance using the Abundance Agenda strategy. Dems will say "I guess America is too xenophobic for a gay president."

If you have a 401k you are probably a holder of Tesla stock since it's in the index funds.

This is one of the bigger problems with the current stock market where investment decisions for a huge amount of the capital in the market is being made mechanically by looking only at the market capitalization of the company. We end up in a hyperreal situation where if you pump hard enough on a stock you can basically "manifest" a blue-chip label on it and then leverage everyone's retirement accounts to keep it

CTAction noted that the agency boasted of improvements to the the percentage of scheduled rail and bus run delivered, but failed to mention this was due to scheduled service being cut by 21 and 13 percent, respectively. "The total number of trains dispatched per day has not increased at all since August of 2022. The CTA continues to call this "schedule optimization," insulting the intelligence of riders who know that service has been cut."

More overtime was credited to NASCAR than any other special event so far this summer except the Pride Parade, for which officers were credited with 31,297 hours. The 2023 Pride Parade crowd estimate was nearly a million people; NASCAR projected it would attract about 100,000 attendees over the course of the weekend.

Currently there are five PRO nascar posts:

  • I invite everyone to turn on the NASCAR TV broadcast
  • NASCAR crew members help fix a car's bumper after it was involved in a fender bender across from the garage area on Lake Shore Drive
  • Unpopular Opinion, but i think the NASCAR races will be awesome
  • OK Chicago, this Nascar thing is fun, Now do Formula 1
  • This checks out…(Randy Sax guerilla marketing link)

and three ANTI nascar:

  • Meanwhile, we’re doing 15mph on 90/94
  • Worker dies while setting up Chicago NASCAR race
  • Chicago’s Nascar Weekend Offers Headaches, Little Economic Gain

Two of the pro-nascar posts are obvious guerilla marketing (the "LSD pit crew repair" post and whatever that Randy Sax thing is). One of the Anti-articles is just news about an unfortunate event.

I think Nascar has hired social media PR/sock puppet groups to astroturf Chicago reddit. I wonder if it's the same people Paul Vallas hired...

My main midwest.social stream is current full of ads for guns and gun parts. Did I do something wrong?
