Tailscale could also work, if they're looking for something with a little less setup difficulty. I haven't used it myself as I'm happy to tinker with WireGuard, but it's supposed to be quite easy to get going and I think the free tier isn't too restrictive.

I've been using jellyfin for a few months and generally really happy with it - it's got a lot of useful features and a really nice interface. The main issue I've found is my poor rockpro64 can't seem to handle real-time transcoding and I haven't been able to figure out how to turn it off...
