According to Statcounter, which should be taken with a pinch of salt of course like any sampling, the Linux share on the desktop hit nearly 4% in Decemeber 2023. Last month was a record too and a clear trend over time, as going back a couple of years, it was rarely coming close to 2% but now it's repeatedly nearing 4% so it's quite a good sign overall.

44 KHz wasn't chosen randomly. It is based in the range of frequencies that humans can hear (20Hz to 20KHz) and the fact that a periodic waveform can be exactly rebuild as the original (in terms of frequency) when sampling rate is al least twice the bandwidth. So, if it is sampled at 44KHz you can get all components up to 22 KHz whics is more that we can hear.

What do you mean with "anonymous login"? If you need to create an account, then it's not anonymous.

I use ublock origin in Librewolf configured with Blocking mode: medium mode. As this mode blocks all 3rd party scripts and frames by default there's a lot of login sites that don't work because the use of captchas, so after some internet searching I've managed to make it work with following configuration in uBO my rules. You can replace * for a specific domain rule.

recaptcha

* https://www.google.com/recaptcha/ script noop
* https://www.google.com/recaptcha/ sub_frame noop
* https://www.gstatic.com/recaptcha/ script noop
* https://www.recaptcha.net/recaptcha/ script noop
* https://www.recaptcha.net/recaptcha/ sub_frame noop

hcaptcha

* https://hcaptcha.com/1/api.js script noop
* https://newassets.hcaptcha.com/c/ script noop
* https://newassets.hcaptcha.com/captcha/ script noop
* https://newassets.hcaptcha.com/captcha/ sub_frame noop

I've identified some sites that use other captchas

dropbox

www.dropbox.com dropboxcaptcha.com * noop

aliexpress

login.aliexpress.com https://cf.aliyun.com/nocaptcha/ script noop

If you have other configs you can share here.

The first and most important thing is that platforms in the fediverse that use activitypub protocol are not intended to be private communications entities, so you must be very aware that everything you post there will be publicly availabe on the internet.

Answering your questions: **1. What information does the instance(s) have on their users? **All the information you provide. Username, email, location, etc. plus some information about what you post (application, ip address). It could be different between platforms. You can check privacy policy for your platform/instance. For example mastodon.social privacy policy

2. What information can users get on other users? mainly the information you post in your profile and posts. again, it could be different between different platforms.

3. What information can the infrastructure providers get on users of the fediverse? I think this is the hardest question to answer and, maybe, an admin could have more information. So far i know, infrastructure providers cannot access any data from services they hosts. But it could depend on the provider policies.

Finally, private messages are not encrypted. You should consider just for casual communication. There are other ways to send private and encrypted direct messages.

So far I understand it's no necessary to use both. You can do everything that Noscript does with uBO.

Did anyone already mention Johnny Cash's version of Hurt, original by Nine Inch Nails? A marvelous reimagined version, maybe, the best cover ever.
