Great drive from the kid. RLL wins for the first time in three seasons.

First 8.5 laps under yellow. Blomqvist’ s debut less than 60 seconds. Hunter-Reay out. Pederson out. Rossi down a lap.

On one of the broadcasts I believe they said the meter recorded 80Gs. Unreal.

What do you think? Life is keeping me busy through the weekend. Would love to see more discussion.

Definitely don’t understand the thinking on Herta’s strategy and disappointed in Rossi’s outcome. Looks like it’s Palau’s to lose. In a weird way it’s a confirmation of the decision to not award double points for the 500. While with the outcome as it really happened would narrow the gap between Palau & Newgarden, imagine if Palau had won the 500: it’d be over. The season is already too short. As it is, there’s still a chance it’s still in doubt going into the also-re-paved Laguna Seca.

But Mid-Ohio next.

Every year there’s a smaller team that suddenly starts doing well, and it’s Foyt this year (and I’m 100% fine with that). What feels different about this is the narrative around it. Usually there are a lot of glittering generalities about the ‘team pulling together’ and ‘everyone working hard, both of which are true (but makes one ask ‘then what were you doing before?’).

The story for Foyt seems to be they started spending money two years ago targeting this year. And they’re pretty open about it. That feels different. I’m hopeful.

Pato starts second. Series points leader Alex Palau starts third. Newgarden fourth, Rossi fifth, and Kirkwood sixth.

Full qualifying results.

“How can people keep doing what they’ve habitually done because it’s what they’re used to?” ask all the folks who are posting in a community that’s clearly described as not being the place for those discussions but people are doing it anyway.

People are generally the weak link in any system.

I have a feeling that he’ll drive whatever someone will pay him to drive. And that’s not a slam.

(In my opinion talking about drivers who are closely associated with IndyCar isn’t off topic at all, even if it’s in another series or discipline. You don’t need my permission or approval, obviously. Just using this as an opportunity to let folks know my moderating philosophy.)

I’d go one step further & say I’d be very good with Grosjean winning. I don’t want Palau only because I want the championship to stay tight. No other reason because Palau is very, very, good & I like him.

The altitude could be an issue, but I’d love to see Indycar on that track in Mexico City.

Pre-Race Thread

Thoughts on Sunday’s race at a track the drivers love. Thought? Predictions?

I’d just contact Ruud now. It looks like at least a couple of folks came in and just started creating communities. I just reached out to him about one…

I think if I ever get to one again it’ll be a road course or, weirdly enough, Detroit. Looks do-able.

Could be worse. Could be RLL. C’mon folks! Join in! The water’s fine!

Not the most knowledgable Lemmy user. Hell, certainly not the most knowledgeable IndyCar fan for that matter. This not-a-subreddit/community (Lemmy)/magazine (kbin) is getting off to a not-atypical IndyCar ragged rolling start.

I've followed it steadily since my wife and I noticed around 2003 or so that we really liked watching the 500 and that maybe we ought to watch more of the races. Went to the 500 in 2007 as well as the last time they were at Kentucky Speedway. I've got some mobility issues (and don't really enjoy crowds), so I've had to be satisfied by whatever part of the race NBC (and ABC before that) deign to show between the same five commercials they show over and over and over and over and over.

I'm not aligned with a particular driver. I'm a regular listener of "Off-Track" so I'll always pull for Rossi, and I've liked Pato since he came in. But outside of Sting Ray Robb, it's not like any of them really annoy me. My wife can't stand Ferrucci, but he just reminds me of every cocky college student I ever taught. Plus I grew up in Houston and any association with AJ Foyt is a plus. I think it's the refinery fumes from Pearland.

So anyway, that's why I'm here. What about you?

My little buddy Porter making plans to retaliate for putting that bowtie on him. The bowtie lasted less than 30 seconds.
