Take away his other toys lol

Idk what got me into it, but I do remember that I would frequently play around with MS Paint at my mom's workplace when I was very young. I don't remember how frequent my trips to her job were, but obviously I didn't have anything else to do while there. So when we finally got our own computer at home, I immediately knew what I wanted to do on it. From that point I would start learning more and more.

I don't have kids, but lots of young children in my family. I've tried getting them into computers too, but they also seem scared of them. I think where I went wrong was trying to show off all the cool things it can do too quickly, as they might have gotten intimidated by the arcane rituals I did to make them happen.

Regarding games, idk. My first exposure to games was on consoles, and I didn't play any PC games until we got internet at home and I stumbled across flash sites. I remember spending WAY more time looking for funny videos/animations than games.

So... I have no real suggestions, just a few personal anecdotes.

Nah, it's 100% a response to the antitrust lawsuit they lost recently (Epic Games v Google) where they were ordered to offer third-party app stores on Google Play for X number of years. So if they can't have their app store monopoly anymore, they can use this to maintain control and insight into apps sold by competitors, and pretend it's for security.

Idk what to say to this. Is it true? I don't know, and you probably don't either. That's a weird way to look at it and I doubt anyone has measured the power costs of the global email network.

It's also useless for decision-making. What matters is a question like "how much would it cost me to host a server and contribute to the network?". Even if the total global cost is billions of dollars, the network will continue to grow because nobody has to pay all of it.

but scaling is hard, and distributed tech is hugely inefficient

How is it inefficient for a chat app? If anything, a distributed architecture is the ideal for this use case. It's only potentially a problem if you need to have huge group chats, which is definitely not the common use case for a chat app, but even then I think Delta Chat's optimized relays can handle that.

see how it goes, and when the solution has scaled in the real world to what it’s competing against then you can feel superior as the one that had the vision to see it

Delta chat uses existing email infrastructure, which has already proven its ability to scale. Nigerian princes probably send more emails per hour than the entire global Signal network.

From, the only info that's leaked is:

  • message date
  • sender/receiver addresses
  • message size

So not nothing, but probably not a serious risk for most people, unless you decide to use an identifiable address for sending/receiving. Idk how Signal protects metadata, but it requires a real phone number, so it's probably not as secure as people think.

Nothing can save this tiny laptop from 2010.

2010 comes for us all.

... You bathe in your bathroom sink?

Why can't you use a washcloth inside a shower? Why do you think sitting in a pool of your own grime is cleaner than having a shower wash it down the drain?

My partner tells me on the rare occasion when I smell bad, so there’s no reason to think they’re saving my feelings. I can also smell the change.

Is that the case? Or do they only tell you once the smell becomes unbearable? Usually, when you reach the point that you can smell your own stank, it's really bad for other people. Have you had an open conversation with them about this? It's an awkward topic for most people. If you're so adamantly defending your point here on the internet anonymously, I wonder if you're more defensive about it IRL, and off-putting to people who would otherwise be honest with you.

In any case, one of us is delusional here. You? Me? I don't think we'll reach a consensus on that one.

I'm not making fun of anyone. I know how stressful situations like that are, but you need to chill because being an abrasive asshole isn't how you get people to help you.

When I looked for work with front end, everything is asking for framework experience, when I have raw html/js/css experience. So what you’re saying isn’t helpful. I’m pointing that out and asking for practical advice, you’re being a dick for making fun of my situation.

I wasn't trying to be helpful to you. You are not OP. OP didn't ask "what should I learn to land a job". I never claimed that knowing basic js/css/html was going to help you get a job. Anybody can do that, it's webdev 101. I was pointing out that those basic skills are all you need to write good front-end software, and that most front-end frameworks are over-engineered and unnecessary.

But to answer your question: learn what employers are looking for. Duh. You looked at job postings and found that they were asking for framework experience, so you already have your answer. If you land a web dev job, it's going to be to work on an existing legacy (and often shitty) codebase, not to write new software. The trendy/popular stuff is what's trendy/popular, so learn that to increase your chances.

But most importantly, fix your attitude. It doesn't matter how smart you are if nobody wants to work with you.

Chill out. If you want advice on how to find a job, post a thread asking for help. This thread is asking about javascript frameworks, not how to help you get hired. A lot of people are struggling right now, and you don't have to be a dick about it.
