What is demonstrably true should be demonstrated to demonstrate its demonstrability.
Some peeps don't appreciate the good stuff in life. Gotta make it all about their deeply ingrained political beliefs, and bring down anything that slightly challenges them. As someone in the original thread implied, don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.
Tell that to admins with strong opinions, and other admins who don't wanna anger admins with strong opinions and get defederated for not defederating the offenders.
True. Although, I've seen even the most aggressively defederated instances of mastodon be very active long-term and even grow. (poa.st may be one of the most defederated instances for example, and 1. there's still a lot of instances federated to them and 2. they still have a very active userbase.)
Quick note about this:
the other was condoning heinous illegal activies regarding underage individuals
As far as I know, they don't actually condone anything regarding "individuals" per se. Afaik Burggit's underage content is limited to hentai (japanese-style drawings) specifically. Which is not to say it is not illegal, because in Canada, it is illegal and categorized as child pornography.

yes! if you hate the hate then you hate and you should be less hateful and let them harass everyone else while you do nothing because you're very passive and that's good because the meek will inherit the world i think i read that somewhere right right i think so yes
Little word about squabbles: centralized and closed source. The day the dev decides bye it's bye, and the day the dev does something dumb, that's it. Not federated, and ultimately nothing you can do except organize another partial exodus. At least with federated it's much easier to have people just make a new account elsewhere, re-sub to their favorite communities and continue as if nothing had happened, losing only a bit of comment history. If you want long term reliability I think this is it. At least I worry about that somewhat more than whether the UI winks at me with its cute charm.
As a dev, I joined a day before that post with much less criterion, then saw that post and felt very satisfied as you say. And they haven't let me down with the consistent updates and a very well oiled system that has handled massive growth with minimal side effects.
Be the change you want to see. Don't wait for your shit to arrive. Bring it yourself.
What would be the legal argument for this? I'm not against it but I don't know how it could be argued.
