It only seemed fitting to have Lemmy himself as the icon.

So I love this game and its story and I've been playing a LOT of FFXIV lately. Got nostalgic for this, a heavy metal song featured in the opening act of the game, during a pre-rendered cutscene. Wild to me that a high fantasy JRPG of all things would do that back in 2001 lol so allow me to share it with you all.

The three primary members of Painkiller were John Zorn on saxophone, Bill Laswell on bass guitar and Mick Harris on drums. Zorn and Laswell had some other collaborations in jazz and experimental-rock genres, like in The Golden Palominos. Harris was previously in Napalm Death, and later recorded industrial and electronic music as Scorn, Quoit, and Lull.

Usually the previous album ‘Unquestionable Presence’ is cited as a landmark in mixing jazz with metal and in the evolution of tech-death. But at least to me, it's difficult to hear jazz in there compared to ‘Elements’.

After this album the band broke up in 1994 until a live performance in 2006 and the new album ‘Jupiter’ in 2010.

Belgium, 2021, debut LP from this post-metal/atmospheric progressive sludge metal group. Also the first group to be signed under Pelagic Records, which is the label that the creative head of the awesome atmospheric sludge metal group The Ocean created. Music is also very similar to the aforementioned lol.

The band has several EPs and at least one more full live performance on YouTube. Not sure about streaming services.

Some videos that I know of:

Post-metal/rock and shoegaze mix together here to create something unique. It's a bastardization of metal that I should detest, but I actually love it lol. It's got enough progressive elements to keep things mildly interesting, and which bring you out of the quieter lulls. Very dream-like in its heaviness, if that makes sense.

Like a mildly softer Gojira without any death metal, or maybe closer to the Devin Townsend Project/Band.

Songs about Conan the Barbarian are better than songs about Lord of the Rings.

There, that's my controversial opinion of the month.

This is my favourite motivational metal song, to me it says you shouldn't wait for some else to finish your quest, not when you had the magic all along!
