So just because the three letter agencies are already doing this doesn't mean they should be. Also doesn't mean that we should just accept it.

if its on a local machine, the user can just change it (or install a different OS).

This also is a gaping hole in their plan. And by California definition all OS are to have this check... So if they all conform and give into this demand then what OS will they change to?

Exactly this is a slippery slope scenario. Next they are going to want the camera to take snapshots of the user to verify that the user logged in is actually who they say they are at all times.

Some will call this comment alarmist but a little critical thinking can see this is the direction the government and 3rd parties are eyeing if not already planning for. Just look at Microsoft trying to take snapshots of what you are working on throughout your session.

I am also leaning this direction. My subscriptions flow for quite a while. Where "new" will load 20ish posts and then need a refresh. Sometimes on my death scrolls it will drop to 1-2 posts on refresh. Rate limiting feels like an answer to this.

There are plenty of ways to perform "filtering" available that don't rely on an age definition.

Parental control software are abundant. Routers (some). DNS filters, PiHole, site blocking etc . I feel that the responsibility is being misplaced on the OS rather than on the content providers. Ex. Software/games if they are targeting the younger crowd or adults only then they should be policing their community.

As you said using age isnt the best route due to fingerprinting and the potential to use this information for even worse targeting (predators). The benefits don't outweigh the negatives.

The kernel is the brains of the any Linux OS. It has access to every aspect of your system. Which is why they (EA) wants access. I would like to think you wouldn't put a device in your brain to have some 3rd party to monitor your entire body for bad actors.

Having this level of access to your system would allow them to see all the processes and files, scan them and create a fingerprint that's linked to your account. With the levels of violations that all governments are conducting in our lives it would be a small feat for EA to divulge this fingerprint for not only their own profits, directed ads and marketing, but anyone who would ask including government entities.

That is only one level. One other aspect is performance hits. Adding this kernel level monitoring will also take clock cycles away from your real needs. Slowing down and interrupting the functions of your system potentially breaking things. This along with adding attack vectors for other nefarious actors to penetrate your system and take full control.

You are correct I do have a choice not to use their poorly implemented code. And I definitely will never use it. The final point I will add is if this were to happen it becomes a slippery slope for other companies to add their own kennel level "security" code. All you have to do is look at any other system. Next thing you know the last light of OS freedom will be extinguished.

Speak for yourself. I'd rather shit companies no matter how big or small not be a part of the Linux ecosystem. Do I want development absolutely but not at the sacrifice of core values. EA is a shit company. Full Stop. They have nothing good to provide.

The mass majority of parents don't parent. This is a different problem than the government is trying to fix. My first introduction to this was when NWA was causing a ruckus and got white christian womens panties in a kerfuffle that led to parental advisory labels on music.

Ultimately having the government force age ID isn't about parenting. Its a pathway to further, easier surveillance on the public under the guise of "protecting the children".

Obviously every device will be required to have both

  1. An always on camera for facial recoog, recounting of wrinkles using AI

2.Always on microphone for voice age analysis through stress levels using AI

  1. Running the only safe and super duper secure operating system Microsoft AI.

If you don't have all three it's an automatic 3 strikes felony offense and you're sent straight to labor camps for the rest of your existence no AI needed (silver lining right? Riiiight)

Duh.

I have moved all my switches to Inovelli. The recently came out with light switches with mmwave imbedded that automatically run my kitchen dinning dimmable lights. They work with dumb/smart lights ceiling fans. They have signed and zwave. They are made in USA so if you are against that then I would recommend Shelly they are pretty solid devices too.

Just like gas prices..

jack up the prices, let the people groan about it and go through the stages of grief, bring it back down slightly to let them feel like they are getting a good deal at the new elevated prices.

Profit.

According to user benchmark my i9-9900 is comparable to your i7-10700 so I'm going to have to say it is likely your gpu that's killing your experience. 4080S which is obvi more powerful is running smooth in most places besides Lagski. But with prices gonna be a stretch upgrading just to find out. Best of luck.

So when looking at the Community Information in the sidebar it doesn't show the number of members or number of posts. I tend to use this information as a gauge of activity within the community. I can see this information when I search for the community though.

Is this a limitation of the system or something that could potentially be added to the app later down the road?

And the timer keeps going up.

As the title says, I currently don't have a reliable method to connect to my home network due to pivpn having issues. In the mean time my phone trys to synced sensors constantly and is one of the power sinks. Is there a way to turn off sync when I am not connected to wifi or even better when I'm not at home?

I've saved many postings but when I go back to view them they are no where to be found. In fact some "saved" postings are ones that I would never be interested in saving in the first place. Maybe I fat thumbed them but unlikely.

Do saved postings only work for the instance that you are subbed to?

With the amount of content that I am not into seeing daily, sports, weird anime etc. It would be nice to have a quicker way to block individual instances.
