holy shit these are the netbooks i've been looking for

Tom Knight and the Lisp Machine

A novice was trying to fix a broken Lisp machine by turning the power off and on.

Knight, seeing what the student was doing, spoke sternly: “You cannot fix a machine by just power-cycling it with no understanding of what is going wrong.”

Knight turned the machine off and on.

The machine worked.

Corporations would happily use slave labor if that was legal.

Actually thinking passes values.

Speaking passes references.

Give it to the dev, and explain the situation. Let them know it seems too big/complex of a PR, but you're willing to make additional changes, or break up PR to make it more palatable for merging. It's in the dev's hands after that.

I don't think you should release your own fork without at least trying to work with the original project.

Make sure all your commits have detailed commit messages so that the dev can follow what you were doing (upgrading deps, refactor because xyz, etc.) Don't just record what was changed, explain why it was changed.

anyway that's what I would do.

mount the camera upside down. Then the camera will tilt down instead of up. A simple vertical flip in any video editing app will fix the orientation, if the camera can't recognize the altered orientation.

because the cost of food has nothing to do with world politics.

Its probably more affordable to just buy prepackaged foods than to spend the money and considerable time and effort on a freeze dryer.

Check out Technology Connection's in depth video on the subject: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Namf-Ddo_Xo

Everyone dies two deaths, once when they die and again the last time another person thinks of them.

I am trying to follow !tenforward@lemmy.world from my self hosted instance. When I search for it on my instance (with the "All" tab selected) I get no results found. When I go to the community https://lemmy.world/c/tenforward, click subscribe, enter my instance name, I'm redirected back to my instance, but there's a "Cannot fetch !tenforward@lemmy.world" error in the UI, and in my server logs I see this:

This is only happening for some communities, for example, subscribing to this community worked fine, and I was able to subscribe to other communities on lemmy.world. (3dprinting@lemmy.world worked fine)

Any ideas why this is happening? Is this on my end?
