It's a fire sale for people who moved to more securities and cash earlier when trump signaled that he was going to crash the market. Also his billionaire buddies when he said he was going to do this, got a heads up.
They're going to buy premium stocks for dirt cheap now and clean up if/when it recovers.
The issue this time around is, trump destroyed the fundamentals of trade between literally every other country on earth outside of the US.
There's literally no way for the market to recover when it's largely based on the same global trade that trump just destroyed for the next generation or two at least.
Allies will not trust the US anymore. We just pulled a Brexit and gave up our seat at the head of the table in world trade.

Small correction, I've read several biographies of people close to trump, including his nephew, and trump legitimately believes he's one of the smartest people on the planet. Especially when it comes to business. His narcissism is well earned here.
He thinks elom knows more about computers, but the reason he refuses to listen to even a slightly less idiotic billionaire about the Tariffs, is because he believes he knows more than Elon about trade. He thinks he knows more about trade than economists who spends their lives doing this.
He's never had to deal with trade. His business is real estate, that's service based. Trade is a whole different system he's never been involved in. He hates trade. Even though he's benefited immensely from it.
