They don't even try to claim they'll stop collecting your data. No one actually cares about seeing a targeted vs non-targeted advertisement; the targeting technology is the issue.

Paying Facebook $14 a month and still being tracked, just invisibly, solves nobody's problem.

Doesn't it sound at least a little bit foolish to trust someone else to intentionally censor the politics of your internet? You're creating your own echo chamber.

How can you understand and disagree with the other side if you can't even read their content? I'm not even talking about hate groups, I'm talking basics like WikiLeaks and the NRA.

Hinduism often has a belief in, "sanctity of the cow, ... the belief that the cow is representative of divine and natural beneficence and should therefore be protected and venerated" (Brittanica).

One could argue that eating beef is inciting and degrading to [probably a select few] members of Hinduism.

Fairphone sounds great but currently has a poor price to performance ratio

Right. There's no reason why private jets shouldn't be paying to offset 100% of their emissions. For cars it's a different story because it's a tax on the poor for something they need. Private jets are purely luxuries, only used by the wealthy, and have a viable alternative.

Yes, but also WhatsApp has its own set of privacy issues.

Are there any (preferably FOSS) RCS/SMS/MMS apps as an alternative to Google Messages? I can't convince anyone to switch to signal and would like to at least use an app that I trust. Eventually I'll be moving to a privacy-respecting mobile OS so I'll need an SMS app to run without Google Play Services, but I don't want to totally miss out on RCS. Are there any alternatives? Is this even possible?

Connect seems cool, but I was using Infinity because it was open source. This one doesn't seem open source (correct me if I'm wrong) so I'll stick with Liftoff or Jerboa for now
