It's what we all loved about the internet I think, before the web become... "that" (looking at the pile of shit the web has become).

But actually it's not the web, not really. It's the big tech platforms that most people seem to think is the internet now. It's sad to watch how people log on to "Facebook" and not the general web anymore. And then Google in front of everything, like a big cancer growth.

Lemmy is not the new internet either I believe. But it's here to show people that something else can exist. As soon as we let advertising in here though, it's over.

Yeah it makes sense. After reading all the arguments here, I guess if it helps to slow down spammers, it's a good idea. Let's do it. :)

I will enable it tomorrow and I would be very grateful for some extra admin help. I will contact you tomorrow. :)

He has a great mix of humor and serious discussions about important topics. He calls out guests for avoiding answering difficult questions etc.

I cant even express it very well, but the man is a legend. One of a kind.

I updated https://lemmy.today this morning and no problems at all.

We are a small instance but still wanted to post this. Maybe it calms the nerves for some instance owners. :)

A lot of us use Linux for gaming now. Supports almost all games. But for God's sake, pick a amd graphics card if you plan to do Linux gaming. Nvidia is buggy as hell.

It's ideal for you since you don't want to discuss it, yes.

I guess some people react to it and other don't. I'm not trying to be rude either - I just mean that the language that you call "formal" comes off as extreamly disconnected from the community to some of us.

Reddit should be grateful for moderators working for free to moderate their site, and the way they talk to these moderators is absolutely fascinating. I can only assume it comes from living your life around corporate bullshit to the degree that it becomes normal to you.

Normal human decency, friendliness, sense of humor, compassion... Reddit leadership doesn't have these qualities. Corporate bullshit is a term for when you fake these emotions to reach a strategic goal, such as trying to make people work in the same direction even when it's not in their interest to do so.

I think it's fairly common that people do some math in their head, specially when they get older than 30. Because it doesn't matter really, you never need to tell anyone how old you are anymore. Well unless you use dating apps I guess, or date people... Nobody else asks your age.

Vendor made me laugh too. :)

If you spend too much time in Microsoft-land or Enterprise-ville, you will start to see everything as vendors. But in the open source world it's different.

I think its the only way to not be completely dependent on some single entity.

So far we have seen all of them go bad with time. At least with federation, you and me can talk with no corporation in the middle, which brings me back to the lovely feeling of the 90's with BBS's and forums. Before the corps took over and put ads everywhere, and basically took the world hostage.

If something big happens, ordinary people need to be able to talk without censorship. And its going to be very hard to censor a distributed network like Lemmy.

I think it's a very bad idea to have karma as well. It shaped reddits entire conversation structure to be all about karma farming, since people think a high karma number means higher status in the community.

I don't see any positives with it. Let people's comments stand on their own for what they say, not because they have high karma.

I think it's the right decision.

We are not supporting fascism by using a software used by fascists. It's a tool, and it can be used to create something stunning and beautiful instead.

Lets do that.
