Never heard of him nor the sphere before. Excellent video that explains the sphere, made by an excellent YouTuber.
Excellent recommendation!

Just because I'm an IT guy, it doesn't mean I know why your laptop is slow.

Yeah, about clock speeds.... remember when they were front and center 20 years ago while marketing CPUs? Intel started marketing CPUs by their clock speeds in the 90's, hilighting that as a selling point over their competitors that usually ran at slightly lower clock speeds.

But Intel painted themselves into a corner: Clock speeds don't matter - instruction sets and floating point ops per seconds do. In the mid 2000s they had to slowly phase out the clock speed marketing, as clock speeds had reached such levels that further increases would be detrimental to performance, so they had to change their marketing and branding strategy.

As soon as clock speed marketing had been phased out, Intel CPUs actually ran at lower speeds than the previous generation, while still outperforming them.

I'm curious to see whether nvidia is about to do the same thing.

I was pretty close once. I arrived as literally the whitest guy in the entire state. I was red as a lobster by the time I left.

I imagine that you're sitting at home by your computer, minding your business and following various rabbit holes on the internet until you hear tapping on the window right next to you. "WTF" you think as you turn around to see what's going on.

You look out the window, perplexed, unable to form complete sentences as you gaze upon a stray sex worker, cold and wet (from the rain, obviously). Will you invite her in and offer her a towel? Do you feed her? What do you tell your significant other? "Hey, I rescued this stray sex worker. She can stay with us for a while, right?"

Zelenskyy vs Putin, 1v1, let's see how strong and manly this russian sack of lard really is.

EDIT: Yes, he knows Judo and various other martial arts, but:

  • There's no video evidence of him being particularly skilled in any of these, especially beyond the level of sports-fighting for points.
  • For the past 25 years, his image has been inflated by a massive propaganda apparatus
  • He's 71
  • Zelenskyy isn't

Doesn't surprise me, considering that some of the dumbass pundits a while back argued that USA wasn't a democracy, it was a republic.

You can run teams in linux. I don't know if the same goes for Outlook, but I found that accessing the web version via portal.office.com was sufficient.

The second part of the title is my own interpretation. I fly myself from time to time (Only recreationally, I have no plans on going commercial. I like my current unrelated career), and have been made aware of the medical requirements for pilots. While strict rules should apply, the regulations are outdated. I find it naive to think that there aren't any pilots currently flying with, for example, ADHD, and while that would in most cases in itself be a disqualifying diagnosis for pilots, it's even more disqualifying if it's medicated.

The video is about a compelling story and focuses mostly on mental health, but I feel that it hilights the same underlying problem; Pilots are incentivized to keep quiet about mental health issue due to an outdated approach because of a ruleset that basically states "No medication, no diagnosis".

And I know we're mostly atheists here, but please keep the theological discussion to a minimum and appreciate the lighthearted hypothetical scenario for what it is.

This is your annual reminder to do a snapshot (timeshift or whatever you prefer) before doing relatively minor changes to your system.

I was supposed to be in bed now, but instead I am stuck troubleshooting xorg refusing to start after an apt-get dist-upgrade.

And as far as friendly reminders go, I should've given myself an unfriendly reminder beforehand, as it's not the first time....

UPDATE: Fuck nvidia 545. All my homies hate nvidia 545. 535 4 lyf!

xrandr allows you to rotate the screen resolution, thus supporting diagonal setups. Some guy claims this is ideal for his software dev setup, with the IDE taking up most of the space, while smaller windows reside in the open corner.
