I'm more worried about my electricity bill tbh. Low-power devices aren't easily available and the second hand market is crap in my area.

Check if that raspberry pi is behind CGNAT. In that case you'll need something else to tunnel through, like Tailscale that was mentioned elsewhere.

This is the consequence of wrapping everything in glossy plastics and dumbed down UI for decades. People don't want to learn, and even if they do it's all hidden away behind blobs and bloats.

I spent an afternoon doing precisely that. Bought a domain, a vps, and setup pangolin. Can't believe how smooth it went.

You had enough motivation and technical knowledge, that's why. Most people don't even bother having separate storage with dual booting.
