Main photo, Rock Hyrax (Procavia capensis) Pups by Ian White

Fun fact!!- I was inspired to hunt out my sample of Hyraceum which is a tincture of hyrax urine (a jelly like substance which is deposited in communal 'latrines' in rock clefts or caves)

Chonky Egg...

Hyrax with Two Babies, by Eric Kilby

The latrines used by the hyrax colonies can be over a thousand years old and have many layers, the oldest layers dry out and fossilize (apparently this is where my sample originates and the urine could have deposited up to 10,000 years ago!)

Harvesting fossilized Hyrax piss!

Now my sample was bought maybe 10 years ago and has aged really well. First off it doesn't smell like piss. It is rich and leathery- definitely of animal origin. It's actually very nice, and quite sensual, very old world and not a scent note that you'd find in modern 'clean' perfumes.....

....well there you go folks! I shall enjoy my Friday evening wearing Hyrax piss (and probably the rest of the weekend as it will most likely linger in my pores after several washes)

an ode to rust 'n crust and the tooth of time - HTT! by lunaryuna

Detail of an amazingly beautiful decay scenario on a epdestrian iron bridge in Wales in the outskirts of Port Talbot. I thought that rust and nature had done an impressive job to create some involuntarily art work :)

Well that's a bummer.... I just finished watching Season 1 a couple of days ago, and was looking forward to seeing where they were going to go with the next one

This reminds me once again to be extra cautious of watching any Netfilx show unless it already has a couple of seasons under its belt...

......not that it worked for The OA. Fuck Netflix

[-] quinacridone@lemmy.ml 13 points 6 months ago

Looking forward to this!

Me and the bf really enjoyed the WTF puzzling of the first season and the beautiful aesthetic, I just hope they continue the quality and don't shit the bed.....

I had a similar experience recently while researching for !nudibranchs@mander.xyz....I found these gems pretending to be nudibranchs

In fact the whole site has some wonderful ai abonimations masquerading as real animals....

....This is a 'mud skipper'

Bats!

It's weird out there!

I've just finished season 1 of rewatching DS9 (again) and Vedic Winn has just made her debut...she's such a deeply horrible piece of work, and Louise Fletcher is perfect in bringing her to life

I'm going to enjoy seeing all the nefarious politicking along with Garak and Quark, Gul Dukat, and Jeffrey Coombs staring as Inertial Dampers...

November (and December) are going to be good!

Prompt 'a mascot for product cream 'anusol', face looks photo realistic, agonised and desperate, surrounded by sharp spikes that look like red, sore and swollen conkers'

I had to use the word 'conkers' as Bing Image Creator wouldn't accept 'hemorrhoids' Also I got a lot of 'blocked content' warning messages whilst tinkering with the prompt, until I got suspended for an hour....at which point I thought it best to quit while I was ahead

Also for your viewing pleasure, some alternatives....(non entrys)

'on some level most social interactions feel like performances where any misstep could mean ridicule or rejection'

yep, that one hit hard

[-] quinacridone@lemmy.ml 12 points 1 year ago

I think this was 'futuristic-biomechanical cyberpunk'

and this was 'misc-lovecraftian'

Both done in stable diffusion online, with just 'quinacridone' for the prompt...so plenty of red

If you like art there's...

!abstractphotography@lemmy.ml

!collage@lemmy.ml

!printmaking@lemmy.ml

also

!traditional_art@lemmy.world

!artporn@lemm.ee

I've curated some other art communities in the side bar at !artistlounge@lemmy.ml including watercolour, art share and one of the photography communities

There are also lots of science and nature communities on mander and beehaw, if you search by 'all' in the communities tab at the top, type and just go down a few rabbit holes...nudibranchs, orchids, botany, minerals, geology, animals and pets etc all exist, you just need to start searching

Happy trails :)

edit forgot !awwnverts@lemmy.world and !natures_patterns@lemmy.world

While I fortunately don't have Crohns, I do have periods of horrible IBS so I can relate to the demon-farts, one evening in the park, my bf had to run away from me after I dropped a stinker, this was outside

Clearing a dance floor though? Respect

[-] quinacridone@lemmy.ml 11 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

I've made- Artist Lounge, Printmaking, Collage

Not because I want to mod (never done it, and I'm autistic so it could end up becoming a nightmare) I just want to see some of my favourite communities on here

Any ex reddit mods of these subs want to re-adopt them, they're welcome to take them off my hands

edit- needed some commas
