Yes.

Side note, anyone aware of an instance that prohibits it?

Ok, so...tall person here - as I grew into my 6'4" frame I got progressively wider as well. In my later days (kinda old now) my width has increased unproprtionally to my stagnated growth in height. Damn! You just fat shamed me without meaning to! Uncool, dude!!

We normally don't gift unless an excellent idea comes up. We were struggling with our ice maker not keeping up (Ice water constantly, cocktails in the evening, etc) and my wife got me a countertop nugget ice maker (chewy ice). It is no good for daily ice water which needs big cubes to melt slowly but I turn that sucker on every day a 3PM and my evening drinks are much improved!

This is a left/right thing?!! WTF? This just a food thing and if you are left/righting it you are a world-class dolt!

"A woman is only fertile during about 5 days each lunar cycle. Unfortunately those days are the most fun but the other 24 are safer."

Can confirm that these are the best days to get wiggy with it - ask me how I know...kids.

The immigrants are not taking our jobs, we are shedding job roles because the immigrants are no longer around to fill them. This is a self-imposed recession attributable to one orange baboon.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is one big plot hole riddled with plot holes and cheesy-ness to boot but I find it mildly enjoyable (yes, I know it is much panned and generally disliked).

I say yes, in the same way that a folded over NY Slice of pie is a sandwich. Handheld bread containing yummies are sandwiches!

Fair enough, I knew my take wouldn't be a popular one here. In all fairness if you are using Apple products the iCloud sync brings all of the metadata with the data on every device that accesses it.

While I don't have any illusions that Apple has my back they do have a lot invested in keeping people's trust in their ecosystem. The automated on-device CSAM scanning kerfuffle that they backed away from shows that they are sensitive to the threat of people leaving their walled garden.

Another fairly easy to implement local solution that wouldn't be an admin headache is to put a Mac mini with a bunch of attached storage on the network and use it as a file server. I do that for my PleX.

I generally browse by "Hot" or "top x hours". I like seeing newer posts that rise and that's what makes me happy. The problem is that there are some rare posts that show a distracting animation in the thumbnail as I browse and it is never something I want to see but it distracts from my browsing. (I use compact thumbnails as my preference).

I there a way to disable playing animations in the thumbnail image?

I usually view my Lemmy instance by "All-Hot" because that seems to have the most relevant unread content. I sometimes filter by "top hour or 6 hours".

When I leave and come back to voyager the feed is filled with old, stale content on initial load. If I go back to communities and reload "all" I then get a refreshed feed.

Why doesn't it default to the latest "hot" posts when I load it?

Wifi networks and home automation systems are expected to last 50+ years.

I was reading up on the life expectancy of different building materials when I came across this gem.

Screenshot is of page 122 https://www.portseattle.org/sites/default/files/2025-02/SEA-SIPP%20Technical%20Report%20Appendix%20C%20Life%20Expectancy%20of%20Building%20Materials.pdf

I guess the ethernet cables could last that long, but they rate house wiring to a lower lifetime. Ethernet cables are not "wireless", however.

The only other wireless systems I can think of are garage door openers, but they are definitely not expected to last 50 years.

We are forever infested with squirrels here. They cavort on our roof and patio cover (making such a racket), they chew on our wood siding making holes or at least gaps for rats, they chew the lead boots on our plumbing vents causing leaks. They cannibalize our lawn furniture cushions for their nests. Squirrels are bad!

Last year I employed a tube trap affixed to a fence leading up to my garage and cleared out about 20 tree rats in about 2 weeks. Life was good for a while but they are back and today I redeployed the trap and within 3 hours I had my first customer. I wonder how many I can get this time around. I have self-imposed 2-week limit on my efforts because I will never be done if I don't set a limit.

I know I will never win the squirrel war but I will win the short term battle.

I've been a follower of the other (dull_men) sub and, of course have hit the dull.men forum at (yuck). I even watched James May try his hand at being uninteresting on TV. I have come to the conclusion that I am so dull that I have nothing interesting to contribute. This is my legacy and I know that this cements my place here.

I have ceiling fans that I run (on slow) clockwise when it's cold. I can clearly feel the mixing of upper level (warm) air into my environment which is comfortable but my wife thinks any moving air is cold air and hates it. I think I need to position multiple temp sensors at various heights and locations to prove my point but my concern is that if I have empirical evidence to back my supposition it will be poorly received because, of course, I'm over-thinking it. Thoughts?

Edit: after receiving the thoughts I requested I must say I agree with everyone and will simply pack my opinion away and mix a lovely beverage with some warming whiskey when we settle in tonight...of course, I'll make two so we can enjoy together.

Edit edit: Sorry, but as I am a goober I had to gather data and I can unequivocally state that fan blowing up makes temp sensors warmer.

My wife was kind enough to get the neck for me. Feels good to chop the mop and now I'm ready for come-what-may.

Starting tomorrow I'm off through the new year. What should I do to really bang it up? I was thinking breakfast out tomorrow seems like the way to go.

I suspect some of you are already aware of it but I wasn't.

I love playing with my HA and associated devices. I suspect that most of you reading this get a bit of a jolt every time you add and incorporate a new sensor, camera, integration and get to play with it.

I have all the door/window sensors and locks/covers, every angle of my exterior covered with cameras, alarm, network devices, appliances, sprinklers, household devices covered.

Any ideas for a new thing I can play with?

My beloved wife is preparing to wage war against colonel Kitchener. Stand back, 7 needles in play!
