What do you expect me to do? Spend more money when I can get better results with less money? I don’t understand your point, what am I supposed to be doing, according to you?

It’s behind a login page so I’m afraid you wouldn’t see much. Also, it was never supposed to be glorious (it was not before the LLMs neither), it’s a matter of just having some form of UI as a necessity. I would be hiring actual designers if it was supposed to be a landing page or sth where the looks matter, not stick with the AI

They weren’t my full time employees but one time gigs. I’ve worked with tons of freelancers over the years, I don’t have any special relationship with them. It’s was just a matter of whoever would offer the lowest price for the gig each time

Regarding the electricity not going to local customers: it’s not my fault that your country does not have appropriate regulations. None of the data centers are located where I live anyways.

Regarding hiring a human: I 100% would hire a human if there was no AI, you’re right, I’m not trying to hide it. Sucks for them I guess but I don’t see a reason why should I keep using their services if I can get a cheaper and arguably better alternative now - I’m trying to make money, not run a charity supporting development of 3rd world countries with authoritarian regimes.

However, I am pretty sure that the companies which I’m paying are currently operating on a loss with my $3/month and free coding plans. They want to grow the customer base and I’ll just switch once they will start wanting to make a profit, like the Chinese ZAI just did this week, hiking up their prices by over 3x. They are operating on a loss with my <3$/month contribution and not buying another mega yacht yet getting further away from one.

You can’t make this shit up man

I can quote that Chinese friend of mine:

“You know because recently I watched some news about Harris and Trump. Harris is like, you know, some political right democrat: we should respect the LGBT people or some lots of lots of stupid things, but I see the increasing prices and lots of people, they don't have their jobs, so lots of lots of Americans - they support Trump now.”

“You know, I think maybe Trump is the better choice for American people. If I were American, I would say “OK, Trump”, you know. I think the American people are not stupid. They don't want to have low paid jobs and pay lots of money for some illegal immigrants, and some stupid, stupid robberies, you know. But they just wanna increase their salaries and have a good living environment. Of course, if I were American, I would support Trump too.”

Shall i tell her to read both Fox and MSNBC at the same time then?

I am afraid Fox doesn’t provide with the sources

How would you know that?

She admitted that herself that she doesn’t trust non-Chinese media a year ago. Also, it’s pretty clear given how clueless she was about that there’s not a single “Western propaganda” yet even within the same country the media outlets don’t have one single propaganda message. I told her about that and she was genuinely surprised to hear that, for instance, the western media are split on the Israel issue and there’s not a single fixed propaganda message. Or that not all the media support Trump and some are anti-Trump while others are pro-Trump. She thought all the western media are always supportive towards the currently ruling “western” leaders

Can you really know that?

Yes

How and where have you first met this person?

During a trip abroad. It was her first time abroad

I have recently talked to a Chinese friend of mine who started talking about how smart Trump is etc. She previously only gained her knowledge through the Chinese media and not the “western propaganda”, so it was her first exposure to the non-CCP-controlled stuff. I told her “you sound like you read FOX news”. She replied with “hahah yes, how did you know?”

This made me realize that she is very prone to getting manipulated and not doing any fact-checking. However, this situation made me reflect on my own news-sourcing skills.

How do you deal with the issue and what can I do step-by-step to verify the news that I read myself and at the same time a way that I can recommend to my Chinese friend so that she doesn’t fall for the most obvious tricks so easily?
