It probably also has to do with the fact that Hungary is entirely in the russian pocket, just saying.

Plant a tree, let it be, don't mow around it, leave the leaves, and when it dies or breaks, also leave it there, it's all alive!

No, I want to plant trees because it helps to have a resilient ecosystem that's more safe in case of a cascade collapse. I want to plant trees because they provide shade in the summer. Because they improve the soil. Because they help prevent floods. Because they give birds food and shelter. Because they are fucking PRETTY.

Can we start thinking about the whole thing instead of acting as if i single problems that are not interconnected?

Plant some fucking trees, even if they are not just carbon sequestration batteries.

See, that's the beauty - you can tell them 'you can join one that's owned by your community instead, an still be able to follow anyone on there! This way you will support your own people and also will have a say in how it is ran' ;)

Hi!

because it’s how you show people “you don’t need to subject yourself to the whims of a Nazi billionaire or the greedy pigboy aping him”.

I still think it's better done on the case-by-case, and instance basis, as mentioned, Don't talk about fediverse was realy meant as a provocation (and it's working :P), I just think we would do better shifting the topic of conversation from technicals and infrastructure and apis to communities and content, because to be honest I believe it is already here.

I think it’s important to be aware of a few options, and be able to answer questions about apps, but I fully agree we shouldn’t advertise the Fediverse based on apps. Specially since you can always check the content without one, even from a phone.

💯 Absolutely. Apps are amazing, but people don't want the app because it is shiny, but because of what it can give them. Community, topics, 'content'.

people eventually migrate from the general purpose instances to more specific ones, as they find their own homes here.

I believe it is already happening, honestly, and I love it!

@Blaze@lemmy.dbzer0.com does this have all the comments from cross-posts in various communities? That is amazing!

[–] thegreenman@slrpnk.net 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Honestly? It is not a problem I have, and I'm really happy about that :P But yes, I think it's very handy to have a quick reply like that, but as you probably already suspect, I avoid general meta topics like that, simply because I don't really have much interest in Reddit itself :)

Yes, apps are awesome way of interacting with the community! But I agree with @some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org that we would do better showing people what's up before asking them to download an app and make an account :)

That is absolutely amazing, and a step in good direction, I hope it gets wider adoption and that the PieFed creator's pillow is always cool, and that he finds an unexpected fiver in his pocket every week for the rest of his life 🙏

Hi! Of course I did, I think it is awesome, and that Elena should get a Fediverse Nobel Prize! Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying we should abandon mentioning federation completely, quite the opposite, the Don't Tell People About Fediverse was more of a provocation ;) I think that having our communities federate is a huge strength we have, and I think that vid is a perfect explainer of 'what actually is federation, and I believe we direly needed that kind of friendly, helpful and premade response, I absolutely plan to use it on my instances to introduce people to the concept and explain it :) I'm just saying, that in day-to-day human interactions, I think we should start with 'There is this awesome community I'm in!' and then later go to 'AND you can follow other communities from within it, no need to make an extra account!' - as I did in my text BTW. We absolutely should do both, but I have noticed people focusing on geeking out on the awesomeness of The Fediverse - and understandably, it is awesome - but failing to mention what actually we do have here, if that makes sense to you?

Also, thank you for taking time to read and comment on this, live long and prosper 🖖

Can you elaborate on this?

So I wrote a blog post on how I feel we can encourage more people to fedi, and it starts with DON'T TELL PEOPLE ABOUT THE FEDIVERSE, because I'm very clever, or something. Would be happy to get your thoughts on that!
