Thank you!
What if we're living in the hallucinatory dream of one of the conspiracy guys from the movie, "Slacker". He's about to wake up, and everything and everyone will be reset. If so, I'm going to set up shop at the Magnolia Cafe on Lake Austin Blvd., at the table with the red-checker, picnic-cloth pattern and the giant ants, and I am never, ever going to leave. Anyone care to join me?
Have I out-Austin-ed everyone here, yet?
Thank you for the info!
I remember when Chili's was just another corporate place at which I would never eat. Now, it almost feels like going there is a protest against obstructively expensive restaurants, with lousy parking and long waits, that are seemingly designed for out-of-state wealth-migrants.
How times change.
Northcross Mall for some cheap food at Furr's Cafeteria, some ice-skating, and then a movie.....wait, no, that's all dead and gone......Maybe, Highland Mall...nope, that's ACC now.....uhhh.....well, there's Einstein's Arcade on the Drag where we can fight with tanks in "Tokyo Wars"....scratch that.......Mr. Gatti's Pizza on MLK with a pitcher of beer and infinite cinnamon sticks....negative, 'cuz Chicken Jesus took that over......
I guess I am all out of ideas. Wait a minute, is it against the law to set up a tent inside the Google building?
At what point does the low quality of life of a long-ignored dog necessitate euthanasia? What amounts to essentially lifelong imprisonment for an uncomprehending creature who just wants love seems cruel. I don't have all the answers, but the current state of things seems unsustainable. I wish all these dogs could be adopted right away, assuming they aren't dangerous, but it seems like real harm is being done in the name of avoiding harm.
No rain in Clarksville, yet. Will the Weather Shield hold?
Back in the late 2000s and early 2010s, before they put up a fence, you could watch the 4th of July fireworks over Town Lake from the top of Castle Hill, even sitting on the edge of the furthest-up of the retaining walls. Benign neglect is responsible for so many cool experiences in my life. It was a very chill and low-key way to share the spectacle with several dozen other people.
I just signed up through this lemmy.world thing. Was that wrong? Should I not have done that? This federation thing could be better explained.
Nonetheless, I find Reddit’s disrespect for its users to be an ill omen. A 1-month deadline for anything as deeply ingrained as 3rd-party apps sends a clear message that Reddit doesn’t want to compromise. On the desktop, I use old.reddit.com, but for mobile, I use 3rd-party apps from the open-source F-Droid app store. I don’t mind ads, I just like my user interface to enhance my workflow, not slow me down, track me, and actively annoy me.
It’s great to see everyone here!
Maybe if the weather stays awful, people will start to move away.

Hey, y'all! Greetings from Austin!
