Thank you. That raises new questions. I have heard of Power-over-Ethernet but never water over power.

Does it prevent curious pets from biting the wires?

I use Proton Drive on Android, installed from the play store. I have >250gb of data with, I think, 10s of thousands of documents. For a few months navigating the file structure was crazy slow, almost 30 seconds for each folder I entered.

I deleted the app and reinstalled and now it's nearly instant for folders I use often.

If I dive deep into a folder tree that I haven't used in months, with a lot of files, it takes ~2 seconds per folder.

It's finally practical to make quick edits to docs using my phone!

This has been reported a few times for inciting violence. While it is walking a line, I don't see OP asking for anyone to be harmed. It was presented in the context of a popular thought experiment. Other posts with the trolley problem often include wealthy people in the scenarios, so I think there is good precedence for keeping this post up.

I agree that this post is uncomfortable and possibly insensitive due to timing as someone has actually died and this post is questioning the value of that death. Many fields of economics assign a monetary value to human life, which similarly makes people feel uncomfortable, but those are valuable conversations to have.

I thought this through a bit and try to error on the side of keeping posts up, but I make mistakes and I am open to feedback. If you want to give anonymous feedback you leave a report (I can't see who writes reports but presumably admins can).

EDIT: Deep breath everyone. Just to be clear, I greatly value people that make reports, I think we all should, its an important part of the ecosystem.

Some things I learned.

Maps.me is the predecessor to organic maps.

Google Maps Go is basically just the browser version of Google maps meant for low memory phones.

In the sidebar you will see that rule 3 is "Avoid politics", as of US election day.

Political posts represent the vast majority of the moderation burden. They tend not to be the fun/quirky/whimsical/goofy/nonsense kind of posts that people enjoy from c/showerthoughts.

Maybe we should make a c/drivewaythoughts or a c/doomscrollingthoughts to fill the void.

The rule will begin 0200 UTC Nov 6, 2024 to be exact, you have 2 minutes, go ham.

As always I'm open to feedback.

EDIT: While I'm editing the sidebar. I will remove the "Be good to others" rule because it's redundant to the opening paragraph of Lemmy's Code of Conduct.

EDIT 2: If you want to give anonymous feedback you can report this post and give your feedback in the report. It's anonymous to me at least.

EDIT 3: Here are some good counter points to the new rule:

  1. This arguably offers new perspective on an ordinary topic but it's pretty political: https://lemmy.world/post/21997198
  2. This post was very popular and remained civil: https://lemmy.world/post/21925102

The world has a lot of different standards for a lot of things, but I have never heard of a place with the default screw thread direction being opposite.

So does each language have a fun mnemonic?

When proton first added docs you could only edit them through a browser. I just noticed today that they added it to the android app!

When I first tried OsmAnd a few years ago it was overwhelming, there is so much to customize.

I tried it again recently and it really impresses me.

My OsmAnd ski profile shows me slope for avalanche risk and 3D relief so I don't need Fatmap, plus OsmAnd let's you download 7days of weather.

OsmAnd doing routing on hiking trails replaces my need for Gaia.

Really impressive work by the OsmAnd team.

It's a key feature of Google maps that I don't have a great replacement for. I assume moderating the reviews would be a significant challenge for the project.

The French may not have the first democracy, may not have the best democracy, but they have had to fight harder than most for their democracy.

After reading the sidebar, I'm not sure this counts as an article. Happy to remove it.

I first learned of Street-Complete here and I really like it.

It's satisfying to walk around, complete little tasks, and get prizes, scratching a similar itch to Pokemon Go.

Stuck waiting for someone? Add opening hours for a few local businesses.

Have a long walk ahead of you? See if you can add/check house addresses as fast as you can walk.

Want to walk off a few beers before heading home? Complete some tasks in the bar street.

Its a very constructive way to "be right" on the internet.

Is one a sub group of the other? Does either term include toddlers?

I'm having this discussion with someone and we both thought the opposite from eachother and we were quite sure our way of thinking was the common understanding.

If Clear is an equity problem, then the toll lanes that are going in all over California certainly are.

Toll roads would be equal. The toll lanes feel really bad.

I think it would be the new Instagram Threads app. It looks like a great way for them to get a lot of free content for their new app.

I'm very interested in what thr Mastodon and Lemmy instance admins have planned. I think there are great arguments made in: https://ploum.net/2023-06-23-how-to-kill-decentralised-networks.html

I haven't heard counter arguments that are equally well supported, but would love to hear them.
