NKD: Kershaw Livewire
I've wanted a Livewire for a while, and I'm going to be somewhere it's legal to carry for a while so I picked one up used. OTF knives are often optimized for the preferences of the mall ninja crowd more than for practical utility, but this one seems to strike a good balance.

Initial impressions of the Convoy S21E as a bike light
I've been running my Convoy S21E (B35A 4500K, 20x65 striped TIR) as a bike light for a week or so now. I find it's a big upgrade from the Wuben B2 I had been using because the beam is a more suitable shape, and it doesn't throttle if I keep my speed up.
Of course if it doesn't throttle, runtime is 73 minutes, but it's 73 minutes of 1500 lumens of glorious 97 CRI simulated daylight. I'll bring spare batteries.

I wonder which optic makes the best bike light
I put a Nichia 719A in a C8
This is an old XinTD C8. That's a retired brand from Hank Wang of Emisar fame; Convoy is the place to get a C8 these days, and they'll even pre-install the 719A (or just about any other LED you could possibly want).
It's 3000K, high-CRI and about 500m FL1 throw. I like it.
@Showroom7561 @flashlight There have been Olight models on this list before. There aren't any currently due to the company's heavy use of proprietary batteries. Their LED selections in many models also leave something to be desired.

The Nitecore MH12 Pro is a relatively slim light that can put a lot of light downrange for a few seconds, but that performance comes at a cost. If you're a first responder, this light may be for you, especially if you're on call out of uniform.
@dual_sport_dork I definitely have trouble relating to the ultralight crowd. I'd be more inclined to take an 18650 headlamp and an 18650 powerbank so I could swap cells between them than to recharge a headlamp from a powerbank.

@solrize Current measurements are in the runtime table. Like I said, I think the output (and therefore efficiency) measurements may be a little optimistic. It does have a boost converter.
I agree a powerbank function would be a great addition here. It would be the perfect larger travel light if it had that. The tailcap magnet is easy to remove.

Some tools do their jobs so well they're a little boring to write about. The E75 provides everything most of us could want in a midsize flashlight, and very little we wouldn't.

@SammysHP @flashlight I'm sure we'll know when it actually comes out. Their "tailor-made" language suggests they're having a manufacturer produce a bespoke design for them.
I'm sure Nitecore hasn't build their own semiconductor fab just to make an LED, but smaller manufacturers might be up for semi-custom runs.

For people new to this federation thing, Dan has posted using Mastodon, software that resembles Twitter and speaks the same ActivityPub protocol that Lemmy, which resembles Reddit uses. I'm also replying using Mastodon.
The user experience tends to be smoother federating between software that's more similar, but it's nice that it's possible even when they're pretty different.
