When you say "funky", was it a little furry and white? If so, that's probably calcium deposits (aka "limescale").

Yep, that was the first thing I checked, since I know how hard they are to find. I did have to replace the membrane for the keyboard. I bought a new replacement from someone who makes them on sellmyretro.com. It works like new now.
