I'm coming to SF for a few days next month, and am a bit of a retrocomputing enthusiast. Obviously, one of the first items on my itinerary is the Computer History Museum, but is there any place worth visiting if I want vintage-computing souvenirs, not just photographs?

On my last holiday, I went to Toronto and ended up spending a day heading out to the fringes of the city and rooting a scrap dealer's boxes for ISA cards instead of exploring culture, art, or history. :)

I know I should have shown up 10 years ago if I wanted to see the heyday of scrap dealers, but linear time and all. :P

Someone mentioned Anchor Electronics in Santa Clara, but I'm staying downtown and it looks like it's 2 hours each way from there via public transport, and even an hour plus from the CHM. I suspect getting a Waymo may cost a fortune if they'd even cover that area... I try not to be in cars when on holiday, but I can sort of make an exception for a technological novelty.

My instance does not allow image uploads due to CSAM so I'm linking to reddit.

Price responded by saying that enhancements don't deter crime and are racially biased.

"And number three, because they require longer sentences, they force us to invest in prisons," Price said. "Enhancements have been at the heart of incarceration. It is absolutely essential that we stop using them."

When asked if he was satisfied with what he heard at the community forum, Oakland resident Julian Heard responded: "No, I wasn't!"

"If you are dealing with a person, (who) they deal with fear and intimidation, you can't meet them with compassion. You have to deal with them with fear and retaliation," he said.

Fuck this guy. ^^ Sounds like a real asshole.

I live in Oakland. I worry about crime and see the videos of assaults and snatch-and-grabs. I absolutely don't want retaliation to be the primary motivation for crime reduction. I want education and opportunities (the article goes on to mention both). Tell this asshole to move somewhere else.

The arc of history may be changing because the San Francisco-San Jose-Oakland region has hit a bad patch

Oakland Animal Services has too many dogs and will be euthanizing several on 6/27. Please consider fostering or adopting one of these cuties.

I have three rescues and cannot add another.

Heads up,

I've noticed another Bay Area community has been created and already has a larger subscription count.

In an effort to support active discussions, I'd suggest migrating over there.

I'll leave this open for the time being.

Pretty sad about this, this has been my go-to theatre for years for anything that I don't plan on seeing in IMAX. They had super comfy seats and the staff there was always really friendly. Plus the BART access was right through the Westfield, with the parking structure across the street so even if it was really rainy it wasn't an issue.
